I remember going to ABC when i won 2 tickets to see "Big" with Tom Hanks. Think it might have been my first trip to the cinema. Also remember going there with my Dad to see Police Academy. It was (and still is) the hardest I've seen him laugh!

Saw the Beatles at Scarborough just to say I had seen them. Was amazed when I turned round to see my mum sat there. She had no particular liking for them but wanted to see what all the fuss was about, It was chaos. So many without tickets milling about the police were frightened the theatre would get stormed so got them to appear on a hotel balcony and wave like the royal family appearing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
Saw the Stones twice that same year. Absolute mayhem. But a lot better atmosphere in Brid Spa with 5,000 stood up than at Futurist in Scarborough with half that amount sat down. ( A bit like football.<laugh>) Not that you could hear everything they played above all the hysterical lasses.

Are you asking if thrillers aren't made anymore? I just started watching Wolfs that came out last year which is quite good.

Deer Hunter is ok, nothing special. I think for me the fact that the entire climax of the film involves Russian Roulette presented in a way that suggests it was quite common practice during the Vietnam War when in fact it wasn't. It's almost like it's.. make believe. But adults don't like films that include make believe so I'm sure that's not it.

Nothing special? I think you may need to add imho to that
It was an excellent film and has rightly been lauded as such

Well I'm passing judgement on a film, of course it's an opinion and not objective fact. I didn't think it was particularly great and reflects the quality of a lot of best pictures at the time - throw people into a war setting and comment on the horrors of war and clean up at the Oscars. The number of scenes of them playing Russian Roulette really dulled the impact.

What made it excellent in your opinion?

And when the majority think the exact opposite of your opinion of the film
    Enough said

So you can't explain why you thought it was excellent?

It doesn't make my opinion wrong as my opinion is about why I didn't think the film was particularly good. You can't argue someone into liking a film.

Plenty of **** films have won Best Picture over more deserving films by the way.
