I think he’ll play until he’s close to 40, coaching won’t even have entered his head at this stage, the lads fit as anything, doubt he even drinks and grafts for everything he’s got, whether he can step up again I’m not so sure but I’d like to see him given the chance atleast for the first half of the season IF we do go up
"Danns is fully fit and feeling asymptomatic, but we have had to put him on a closedown for a few weeks to see how he goes" Sounds protective rather than an injury
I'm not a doctor nor a physio but this suggests to me the scan found his previous stress fracture hadn't healed right, or he still had some scar tissue or something that needs a good massage out? Either way it seems this rest is to stop him from getting another stress fracture rather than because he has a new one.
Agree, seems like they might have rushed him back too soon and he needs a period of rest as he might have been at serious risk of it reoccuring
to be fair I didn’t really phrase to well, I didn’t mean here more so on socials. I defiantly think this is his ceiling, I would love to be proved wrong but the kind of game he plays (the jumping on peoples backs etc) you would not get away with that in the league above, VAR would play a role with that. I defiantly would still have him around mind but in terms of starters I think we need something better.

Makes the point of us being strategy driven and that’s exactly it. We have a squad of players who are capable of playing how we have been all season. Browne, mundle, Watson and Danns to come in to the squad. We will hopefully be in a very good place going in to the run-in.
In my opinion, sometimes a good window is not signing players ... ... piling players up, as some clubs have done, creates unrest and chaos whereas we have a fabulous team spirit. Sunderland have a very good team and also a good squad. When you have players like Browne, Samed, Mayenda, Mundle, Watson, Aleksic, Poveda, etc, fighting for a place you know you're on the right track. By the end of the season we could have the best bench in the Championship. And, despite some predictions, none of our young stars have departed for a distant galaxy ... ... Stewart and Clarke have departed and we've improved. Wow!
They got on my nerves. They blow everything out of proportion to get engagement. They’re always over positive about us when things are good and over negative when they’re not. They’re just wanting engagement. it’s accounts like them that have driven me off twitter.
^ this. find the NotTheTop20 lads the best really, not clickbaity clips and very well researched. second tier steal content and push it out as there own and seem to clip things for engagement
They’re Derby fans, but know us Leeds etc have the biggest fan bases on there and get the most responses that’s why they over egg everything so much
Agree with this. I found them/liked them at the start of the year but really quickly tired of them. It's all quite superficial and it'd all just bait on a hook.
they’ve also learnt quite quickly that praising Sunderland has the double affect of getting lots of attention from Sunderland fans and a lot of negative attention from others.
https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...n-defends-sunderlands-january-search-striker/ KRISTJAAN SPEAKMAN has outlined why Sunderland found it so difficult to sign a forward in the January window – and defended the club’s decision to continue with a loan deal for Jayden Danns despite his medical highlighting an injury issue… Speakman insists there were a number of factors behind the problematic pursuit of a striker, with the form of Wilson Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda a key consideration. Prospective signings knew that Isidor was likely to remain Regis Le Bris’ first-choice option for the ‘number nine’ role, with Mayenda also highly-regarded, hence there was a reluctance to move to Wearside to play what could easily have turned out to be a supporting role. “Players have to have the physical, technical and tactical qualities to fit into the way we play,” said Speakman. “Then for players that are available in January, what they are seeking first and foremost, most of the time, is game time. “We have a nine who is performing really, really well (Isidor) and another nine in Eliezer who has played in some different positions and also has an incredible record with goal contributions this season. “Finding someone comfortable coming into that setting isn't easy, because I can understand that they know they won't be the number one choice from day one. And I don't think there is any doubt that Wilson deserves to be the number one choice.” “It’s difficult to say when we’ll be seeing him at this moment,” said Speakman. “Jayden was a player we really wanted to sign, and it was just really unfortunate that, at the very end, we uncovered something. He was fully training and playing, but now he's going to have to rest for a period of time. “When it comes at a very late hour, it becomes very difficult for us to find an alternative. We had a really good discussion with Liverpool about the way forward, and he can hopefully come and join us at some stage. For us, it wasn't just about adding numbers to the group, it was about quality and personality. Jayden met both of those criteria.” Should Sunderland have left it so late in the window to make their move? “Unfortunately, there are a lot of decisions made in the last segment of the transfer window, and that doesn't leave you with a lot of room to manoeuvre when you discover some information that you didn't previously know,” said Speakman. “Ultimately, the player has to come and contribute, and they've got to fit in. To find all of that is difficult when we have two really good centre-forwards. “We felt that we'd added what was the ideal player in Jayden, so there’s obvious disappointment that he is going to be unavailable initially. But that's sometimes how it goes in a transfer window. That's why you have the tests, to pick up these things.”
Brilliant by Speakman to comment and take any of the light off Tommy. He has protected the asset in eyes of fan base, whilst being open enough to not suggest there was nothing in it. We are lucky to have Speakman. He is doing a great job not just with the recruitment but with his handling of club business and protection of the talent we have.
Think his next job after us is going to be a very large club indeed. Think he will stick around until we are in the premier mind.
