Large proportions of fans of all clubs are ridiculously entitled to be honest. They want instant success. They expect an owner to come in and throw millions at it - you here arguments like "if they're not willing to lose money, they shouldn't have got into football" etc. If they don't spend more in every transfer window than they makes they'll be accused of stealing from the club. If they spend more and make a loss, they'll be expected to write it off. If they come in, spend millions, achieve great success, it's still not "their club", it's "our club" and they're fortunate to be a custodian. As soon as that success isn't sustained they'll be expected to walk away and take whatever deal is best for the club.
That type of fan will never be satisfied because they're always looking outside at what everyone else has... And there will always be someone more successful. Far better to live in the present and appreciate what we have right now.
Tell it like it is mate, and that’s how it is.
There’s been a significant change from fans hoping for signings, then expecting signings and now demanding signings.
People know exactly what signings they want and seem to believe repeating it, on social media, will push the club into action then seem offended if their wishes aren’t granted. There’s a belief, among some, that ‘signings = promotion’ and ‘no signings = no ambition’ Staying with the squad who’ve given us a chance isn’t an option and will be throwing away our chance of going up. Not demanding signings means you’re accepting mediocrity apparently.
If ambition is shown, money spent and promotion not achieved the answer will be ‘spend more money next time’, guaranteed …
… then, when it all goes wrong and the spectres of relegation, debts and liquidation appear people will say, ‘Yes the owner/club should be punished but why should the fans suffer?’
Sunderland have become bigger and better without repeating the mistakes of the past but some will still say ‘They’re trying to do it on the cheap’ as if that’s a bad thing. KLD keeps saying he wants the club to be sustainable …
… some don’t like the sound of that despite the alternative being unsustainable.
As you’ve said some want money spent no matter where it comes from, preferably KLDs own pocket for some.
Que sera on the window … Ha’way the Lads at Boro.
