Disagree Dan, Alves was 27 when he moved to Boro and had a goalscoring reputation that was based on him being a big lump who got in the right place at the right time to score tap ins, also being so reliant on the service he received it hurt. Now that suited him fine in Dutch football where there's lots of goals and it's end to end with nobody sitting deep or putting 10 behind the ball. Assaidi, is 4 years younger, playing in a Dutch league that has improved over the last 3 years in particular, and as you can see is not just an out an out goalscorer but a very tricky technically based player who beats men and provides goals also. You may be right as any player may or may not adapt well, but there's definitely differences between the two. Definitely haven't found anything that makes Alves looking like Pele though. Lat
Now I've never seen Assaidi play so I can't comment on him, but I'd much rather go for tried and tested. We don't need somebody who can beat players on the ground, our passing does that for us.
Billy Sharp could come. Life changing experiences make you think differently. Everyone saysthat becasue he lost his son, that he'll stay put locally to Yorkshire. I think that terrible experience will make him do the opposite. When something really tragic happens, you open your eyes and see things differently. If he came to Saints he'd be settled in by Adkins and Crosby and be very relaxed.
You don't want Fryatt, he's blind in one eye and has one leg longer than the other, if you watch him you'll notice that he mainly runs in circles. And he's injury prone, I know he hasn't actually missed a game for us yet, but he was definitely out at Leicester at least once and I believe he only had a broken jaw. You don't want a slacker like that. I'd go for McCormack if I was you.
You don't want McCormack either. God knows how he's second top scorer, can barely shoot and falls over every time he tries to pass the ball etc. etc. Also Keogh to us in January is pretty much a done deal.
Billy Sharp deal is 50% done. Offer has been accepted, looking to agree terms with him. You can all shout source, however i'm not going to tell you who told me this. This is 100% the truth, however, you can choose whether or not you want to believe it. We're also in for a young Italian winger, not sure what his name is though.
I've said before that I don't think NA or NC would shell out on a coke-sniffing, over-egooed, overpaid player.
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3980081/Southampton-back-in-for-Billy-Sharp.html you've got to admire the effort the sun puts into all of their articles
Does anyone think they typed this a few seconds after the first post about Sharp rumour was published? I heard we're in for Janes Henry of Millwall! (NOTE: Test to see if it is published in the Sun or Mirror )
Agree that tried and tested is probably the way forward, language barrier issues etc, but I thought I'd mention someone nobody else would have heard of. No idea how you've mentioned Alves and Pele in the same sentence based on that vid though. Yup he scored 7 of Heerenveen's 9 that day against the 3rd worst defence in the league (1.88gpg conceded), but none of them were even 'good' goals. They all relied on no more than the following four things: 1) Good positioning against a high line of defence. 2) Woeful Goalkeeping Errors (Goals 1, 2, & 5) 3) Woeful Defender Errors (Goals 3, 5, 6, & 8) 4) Incisive Supply from a teammate (Goals 1, 6, 7, & 8) Ironically, the best goal of the 9 by far is the 4th scored by Gerald Sibon (ex Sheff Wed). I think even I'd go as far as saying that 6 of Alves' 7 (the free-kick being the exception) would be finished by anyone on here who has played at Sunday League level or higher. Lat
Your hardly helping your case for alves being a worldbeater. I know you don't want him at Saints but 7 tap ins against the worst goalkeeper, defence and team to ever grace the dutch league lol. The other lad who played with de ridder had skill, flair and ability three things the great alfonso never had.
Dont you dare take keogh from us, i rate him incredibly highly although his goalscoring record isn't anything to go by
