And we're signing a fit player in form with 8 goals and 3 assists in 24. How much better than 1 in 3 is prolific in your book?
Same people writing off these signings also told us Delap was **** when he came in before he'd kicked a ball too.
I'd prefer Kone, but he would cost a lot more, so maybe it's a bigger risk. The striker has to fit into the system and ethos Selles has, and we've struggled with out-and-out goal scorers for a while. Oscar was one, and fans and the managers, it seems, were unhappy with his contributions outside of scoring. We probably can't afford strikers who can do both, so trying to get the team to score goals collectively is probably more reliable than putting our hopes on a 'natural goal-scorer'. It is frustrating that window after window passes by without us nailing down a good answer in this position, it feels like we've allowed the likes of Cannon, Stansfield and Conway to get away by acting too slow or prioritising other areas.
And that’s fine. If Sellés wants to play with a false 9 and have the two wingers play narrow and be a goal-scoring threat, then we need quick, mobile wingers to do that. I can’t see how we do that though with Pedro dropping deep and someone like Amrabat on the wing. There seems to be a disconnect between how the manager wants to play and the players we’re recruiting and/or wanting to recruit. Quick, mobile wingers playing off a false 9 and making runs in behind or slower, more technical forwards like Amrabat, Gelhardt and Lincoln with a quick number 9 running in behind. It seems we’re just hoping for the best.
we cant just go and spend 10m+ on a good championship goalscorer, we need to find potential gems in other leagues might not be exciting though, but its what we need
I don’t remember anyone saying delap was **** before he came in. Not prolific maybe, but not **** Captain Morgan might have said it to you though
People on here definitely weren't impressed. I remember Rosenior saying he had "freak speed" and thinking that sounds a bit strong. But it made sense when he played for us.
I think he’s doing a bit more than ‘hoping for the best ‘ I think he’s seen a plan a blend of skill , maturity, application and strength as being a solution to at least staying up . I think we will compete physically better , we are already one of the better passing teams I. The div in my opinion , biggest concern fir me is full backs and playing to narrow allowing oppo wingers too much space . Crowding the area is like zonal marking too much of a gamble .
No, his market value will be determined by what other interest there is in him. 2m is probably.about right.
But also - we already have 3 young wingers signed up for next season (even if it is debated whether Kamara is going to be good enough) It was always unlikely we were going to sign long term prospects this winter when we’ve already got 3 on contract next season, especially when we are in a relegation scrap. This window is about getting us through to the summer and nothing else. We need a number of players due to injuries and bad signings at LB and up front. There’s too much to do to be too fussy.
There was a certain ex-pat with a child bride and ****ing appalling taste in clocks, who said he 'wasn't a strikers arsehole'. The 2023 transfer thread is quite entertaining, if you can be arsed to go through seven hundred pages.
