injuries. Couldn’t get a game for Blackpool and dropped right down pecking order.

There's a real chance Carlisle will be playing Conference football next season and he is a million miles above that level, but players do get stuck down the leagues sometimes, if he has an agent I feel like he has been badly advised here.

agree with this massively.

do we need another striker who can hold the ball up and be good in the air? Yes.

but they need to be able to do the running and pressing RLB would like them to do too.

not gonna find many of those who are “proven in the champ” as they’d be in the prem. so we look for gems with these attributes elsewhere

You've described that Southampton lad to a tee. Can't remember his name - lanky Scottish fella.

I know I keep going on about it and keep getting pelters for it but I’m gonna repeat it.

Ipswich linked with Philogene from Villa today. They went for him in the summer and nearly signed him but Villa exercised their right to buy. He’s a left winger. When he didn’t sign, they went to Clarke instead.

They’re bringing in ANOTHER player where Clarke plays. He’s definitely going to be available for loan. And we’re the only place he can go.

I don’t want to block Watson or Mundle progression but they’re both injured. And I’m adamant that in this RLB team with Jack Clarke, he could be the difference between automatics and not.

Can he be registered at a third club in a year?

Really tough to pinpoint where we’re desperate for more tbh. There are drawback to adding players. Ultimately bringing players in - particularly loan players - brings with it the prospect of moving players away from the pitch. This is only exacerbated by RLBs dislike of rotation and subs. Don’t want to hurt the development of our midfield three for instance. And that’s just the effect on this season. There’s future seasons to bear in mind too. If we bring in Barry on loan does that make Watson less likely to sign a deal? Does another striker mean Ogunsuyi decides to sit in Liverpool's academy instead?

All that isn’t to say we should do nothing. However it’s never as easy as bringing in 4-5 like many default to every window. Listened to WMS reaction last night and the talk was of the quality and potential of our young players and how we need to support them with a few more Mephams. What they didn’t really twig, though, is that these additions would be mostly taking the place of these promising young lads, and impacting their development as a result. Really tough for the club to balance the short term opportunity we have with the club ethos that has put us in this situation in the first place. And that’s before we consider fan chatter and pressure.

Spot on that.
