Really tough to pinpoint where we’re desperate for more tbh. There are drawback to adding players. Ultimately bringing players in - particularly loan players - brings with it the prospect of moving players away from the pitch. This is only exacerbated by RLBs dislike of rotation and subs. Don’t want to hurt the development of our midfield three for instance. And that’s just the effect on this season. There’s future seasons to bear in mind too. If we bring in Barry on loan does that make Watson less likely to sign a deal? Does another striker mean Ogunsuyi decides to sit in Liverpool's academy instead? All that isn’t to say we should do nothing. However it’s never as easy as bringing in 4-5 like many default to every window. Listened to WMS reaction last night and the talk was of the quality and potential of our young players and how we need to support them with a few more Mephams. What they didn’t really twig, though, is that these additions would be mostly taking the place of these promising young lads, and impacting their development as a result. Really tough for the club to balance the short term opportunity we have with the club ethos that has put us in this situation in the first place. And that’s before we consider fan chatter and pressure.
Very true that said I think loans would make more sense and be more reassuring to our young talent as perm deals would signal them moving down the pecking order permanently rather than for half a season
Think we could get away with that for Trey but don’t think that would hold for Watson. He’s talked about his frustration that he didn’t get a shot last season. Doubt he’d take kindly to being told to wait another 6 months. We’d never have access to it, but I’d love to see the squad evaluation that KS and the club have done going out over the next few years. Feels like we’ve got really clear progressions in some positions (eg Young) but less so in others. Expect to see some of those being addressed in this January alongside the more immediate first team needs.
If we get Chukwuemeka and a RW we will win the league. That Chukwuemeka would be unreal at this level. Can't see it myself
we have aouchice holding down the fort on the left and with the chance he has now and some coaching he could improve. i think we need a 9 and forward who play in a couple of positions, mostly notably from the right, we've got 3 options on the left albeit 2 are injured.
