It's horrific what happened to her, but like you say incredible bravery to do what she has done. Those involved deserve everything that will be coming their way when they are behind bars.
Went out last night for annual Christmas beers with a couple of my mates around Roker. Pubs were completely empty other than the Harbour View, some not even open. Went to the Stack and there was about 20 people in the whole place. Taxi to town, about the same number of people in Three Stories. Taxi driver said it's completely dead everywhere. I know a Wednesday isn't the busiest night but compared to last year, which was also the wednesday before Christmas, it's like night and day. People just can't afford it anymore. No wonder the pubs are closing.
Went out with the missus a few weeks ago just for some bait and drinks at the Botanist then over to the fire station for some more drinks. After taxis we’d spent not a kick in the arse off £300 iirc.. £6 a pint in Sunderland man
Real term wages in my sector, further education, are down in the region of 30% in the last decade. That will be having sizeable knock on effects on things like leisure spending when spread across other public sectors. I'm more likely to look for value for money and, using WorkyTicket's example, regular big nights out aren't going to happen. Edit - hopefully the crown studio works will be a shot in the arm for local hospitality
It's absolutely ridiculous, some places are charging £5-£6 for Carling! I don't drink it as think it's crap but it's a popular beer and punters are being exploited. As much as I hate Tim Martin, Wetherspoons pubs are becoming the only places now that have realistic prices.
Aye, ours isn’t doing too well either wages have risen on average about 13% in the last 10 or so years. Im on the highest wage I’ve ever been on but seem to have less money than I ever have. We seem to eat out a fair bit more around this time of year because she’s over the top and makes plans all frigging month. Got the kids out seeing Santa or seeing family as we won’t see them on Xmas day etc.. it’s rare that it’s below £70 for the 4 of us to eat out, and my girls are 2 and 5. Even just popped into Zizzi in the town after spending £60 to see Santa at Fenwicks, got some pasta a few drinks and the kids got a set meal thing they have on - £90. £150 to go and see santa and have a bit of bait in an average place after. It’s scandalous mate. Me and my mates normally meet up before Xmas for an Indians and a few drinks, one of them suggested trying the sheepfolds steak place - £53 for a 3 course set menu, that’s before a pint so be about £60. I was like no thanks we’ll go for a Chinese
Hate was probably a bit strong of a word, I just think he's a bell end although I'm sure the media might have made a few things up about him. Good business man however, especially looking at the way things are now in the sector. They might be the only pubs left soon!
You’re not wrong mind. Even these marstons pubs are twice the price of a spoons pint. Few bars down Fatfield on the river we used to drink at regularly when we were younger. The club is just up the road, £2.50 a pint. The same pint is over £5.50 in the havelock or rbar. Literally 100 yards away. Guess where we had everyone back after the bairns christenings… people were fighting to get the rounds in because you’d spend £20 on about 6-7 drinks
I'm in Jameson's most home games pre-match with my dad, it's £2.99 for a pint of Shipyard. Same beer is a fiver in The Engine Room. Used to try different bars pre match as I like my ales and craft beers, like the Dun Cow or Isis etc but the prices just put us off. Tempted to try the Bridge Hotel on Saturday mind.
It was Jimmy Ramahaw who i seen about it. My Grandad had been very well known in there until he died in 1979, so when I went to see about becoming a member I mentioned my grandads name and Jimmy Ramshaw got a couple of committee members to nominate and second me. I remember him saying to them "this is Foxy's Grandson".

Just got back from the works social club crimbo function. I’ve just worked out that my days of drinking any more than six pints are long gone. I’m going to have a bloody awful hangover tomorrow
We were in the town Saturday tea time and it was bouncing. Didn't even bother trying to get served in 3 Stories it was that busy. Went down to the Bridge Hotel Vaults, lovely selection of Vaux beers in draft but at £8.80 for a pint and a half it's at the top end of the price scale. From there went to old faithful Sam's Bar which was spot on as per usual. Lively but not too busy, relaxed atmosphere, good prices (Camden Hells £4.50 a pint).
The money you could spend on a night out in any City or Town could be used to go abroad. Its pathetic. People are now choosing to stay in after going to the supermarket to by slabs for a fraction of the price of a night out. Same with places like the cinema in the town, mate of mine took their lass and the bairn to see Paddington a few weeks back. Not something they always do so didnt bother taking anything in to eat with them and decided to just get some stuff there, best part of 60 quid later. Absolute piss take.
