Homages within films. Back To The Future has just been on the telly. It only struck me that whilst there was probably a few, the scene towards the end where Doc Brown is hanging off the clock hands is a clear nod to the Harold Lloyd film Safety Last.
Yes I know I’m very sad and boring to notice it and then to put it on here.

After god knows how many years and times I have watched he'd both movies, I only just realised Back to the Future and Gremlins share the same film set a couple of days ago :emoticon-0114-dull:

I knew the Universal Studios backlot was used for BTTF didn’t know it was used for Gremlins though.

I’ve said it in other threads that I hated school. My adult brain can now articulate what I was thinking as a kid. Basically, why do I need to learn this, what’s the point of it? My adult brain can also understand why I should have learned it and what the point of it was.
The vast majority of teachers of my generation at the schools I attended were awful. There were exceptions. My old English teachers at both schools I went to were excellent and will likely explain, in part, my love of reading.
So it’s nice to read in the article below about Eric Morcambe that teachers didn’t know everything despite the reverence they were held in by mine and I suspect other children’s parents. Kids develop at different rates in my opinion and being consistently told as a 11, 12, 13 year old that you’re stupid by supposedly intelligent adults who are meant to impart their knowledge doesn’t do anything for self confidence.
This could be its own thread but probably better to keep it here.

60 Classical Years just started on BBC2 and what a start, absolutely phenomenal.

Pavarotti in Hyde Park singing Nessun Dorma ...

... and keeps knocking it out of the park with Dance of the Knights, Verdi's Requiem and now Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves in the Albert Hall.

I'm away from home but hope I can get this on catch up when I'm back ... breathtaking.

I know we all say that society is moving on and we have to accept it. But the cop on the left, with a beard….come on! Is it any wonder that they are losing the respect of the public? The cops are not a fashion parade. Now it could be argued that it shouldn’t matter about the appearance and it’s how capable they are of doing the job. I’m just thinking that if he thinks it’s acceptable to look like that and think that anyone would take him seriously then he’s living in a fantasy world.
Rant over, grumble grumble….

Tamworth, FA Cup against Spurs. You greedy b*stards. How to rip off your own fans. I understand you need to make the most but ticket prices are disgusting.

I have to disagree mate.

Most of the crowd aren’t putting money into the club week after week or supporting it, so they’ve had plenty of chance to save up …

… and this is a major, and rare, opportunity to square their finances.

Those who actually support the club will be happy to pay imo.

There was someone on TalkSport yesterday from the Tamworth supporters association and he gave a good breakdown of the ticket prices for this game.
By the time Tamwoth give Spurs their cut, and the F.A. their percentage, along with increased policing/staff/running costs, the amount they will get will be about the same per ticket as the normal home game ticket price.

It would be a nice gesture, (and they probably will tbf), if spurs gave their percentage back to Tamworth.

Tamworth could've switched grounds which would incur much more expense for the fans ...

... be nice if they drew and got two matches though <laugh>
