We rarely see eye to eye on politics, but I agree completely on this. Politicians lie, no matter what side of the fence you're sitting on. The problem is, a lot of people perceive the Dems ("the left") as honourable and honest, so when stuff like this happens it's hard for them to digest and try to make excuses for the corruption. They excuse their lies. If this happened to a Republican, it's almost expected and everyone kicks off. Just understand, politicians lie on BOTH sides and will continue to do so as long as they can keep "the people" divided. My question is, can this ever be stopped? Will there ever be a party with genuine integrity again? In the US, or the UK? So fair enough, OS. The hypocrisy stinks. Climate change is real though, whether it's man made or not. Look closer to home.
As a father, I completely understand why Biden has pardoned his son. Hunter was only indicted in the first place because Joe was running for office, as the offence is comparable to Louise Haigh’s in its insignificance. The fact that Hunter is a recovering addict who would in all probability relapse and fall into a death spiral in prison is also a massive motivator for an outgoing president. Should Biden have done it? Probably not, but I most certainly would have.
Very interesting timing on the length of his pardon too. Almost like.. he’s done even more corrupt **** that is being deliberately buried
Find a post where I called you a conspiraloon or a mentalist. And, you know, take responsibility for your own actions. This morning you have gone from haha I win, to he started it! More playground antics.
They did. They made a huge thing out of it when Trump did it leaving office first time round..........but now it's "undestandable" when Joe does it.
It will keep happening again and again and again until TPTB start looking at the populace "as they are" and not "as we want them to be." No-one like being preached to by people doing fine when in their own minds they are just trying to get by.
Just for clarity, look up the difference between sympathise and justify. Personally, I don’t think president should be kings. I don’t agree with pardoning your mates or family. I do feel Hunter was victim of a law they don’t enforce on others - which most neutral commentators agree on. But mostly, we would all pardon our sons if we could.
I actually side with O's on this (first time for everything) Polititians like Biden enjoy a comfortable lifestyle on the premise that they suppoert the law. In the USA there must be countless people languishing in jail, long term for minor offences and presidents have the power to pardon them, in general they don't, maybe they should. I'm afraid I don't subscribe to this "if it were my son" argument.
Leaders should lead. Not break rules then pardon their friends. It’s why the Tories should have all resigned after party gate and called an election immediately. I don’t accept that politicians are above the rules. They are supposed to work for us. But also, people shouldn’t be fooled by identity politics in the way they are. There were many people on here that believed Joe Biden was a good person. This was a lie. These same people believe Labour are good people and less corrupt than the Tories. The same people that complain about Elon musk but don’t bat an eyelid that Qatar are the largest donor to the Labour Party and many MPs (Ed Milibands largest donor is a foreign billionaire. Where was the outrage there?)
I don't have a son of my own but I do have a stepson. If I was in the same position as Biden, the little ****er would still be going to jail.
No outrage because it's quite probably distorted misinformation, apart from some completely unverified twaXter posts by @LeoMars75 from Zimbabwe and an all but a year old frothing piece in the Mail there's hardly a mention of what would make substantial headline if it were true.
It's wrong, I can see why he did it, but it is wrong. I am not going to justify it by saying Trump has done worse, as that is irrelevant. If I murder two people, but Os only murders one, we are both in the wrong. This isn't about degrees of wrong, but the fact that any president has the power to do this. I have no doubt in my mind that Trump will do equally outrageous stuff in the coming years, but it does not make Joe pardoning his son right. I can though see why he did it and I would in the same position.
TBH, I think I will leave this thread at this point. There isn't really much for me to joke about when the whole debacle of world politics is just a tragic comedy of unbelievable levels on all sides. That anyone can defend anything in the political (or technocrat) sphere is quite beyond me because it is now just a free for all of pigs in the trough and we will all be f'd in 10 years time. So look after yourselves guys. No-one else is gonna look after you! And yes I am genuinely shocked at where we are. While I tongue in cheek a little about anarchy and the fault being humanity itself.........it is coming true very fast and I guess my time may be better spent with my family than moaning on t'internet. Its been fun though.
bye bye Elgin marbles.......not that it affects 99% of us. I've personally never seen them nor had any interest in them but hey.......lets get some faux outrage going. Just to pass the time.
I thought you were offski. "TBH, I think I will leave this thread at this point." Welcome back. Good if they go, the marbles belong where they were looted from along with a lot of other pillaged treasures.
Trump also didn’t promise not to. Or pretend that he is a virtuous guy. He is who he is. Which is why I have always said he is the lesser of two evils when compared with his opposition.
