Do you invest each month? Have you started a business? What value have you provided? Most people that “hate capitalism” don’t even play the game. They expect things to be given to them, then complain that they’re poor. I find it absurd.
I agree that they should pay farmers more and cause a lot of issues. But supermarkets have incredibly small margins and take a huge amount of risk to bring everyone incredible convenience and choice too. Very easy to focus on the negatives and ignore the immense positives. Tax rises will push prices up for consumers. Labour are essentially making everything even worse.
If you think about it for even a nanosecond, the complete absurdity of this position becomes apparent. So everyone has to start a business in order to succeed, do they? Who exactly works for these businesses, and who buys their products?
Not true. Tesco’s profits will rise by 15.6% this calendar year, to £2.9 billion. They have the supply chain completely sown up so there is virtually no risk whatsoever.
Most people work. That’s how they add real value to the economy. But work in the U.K. doesn’t pay, when wages have been stagnant for years, while the value of assets - particularly property - has risen exponentially. Young people are locked out of the housing market, unless they have parents who can help them get on the ladder. This represents a systemic failure of capitalism; it has left millions out in the cold, and will get worse if we don’t change course from the laissez faire free market fundamentalism that is enriching the few at the expense of the many. Good for you if you are one of the winners. Not all of us want life to be a version of the Hunger Games; We just want a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay, and a tolerant cohesive society in which to raise our children and grandchildren.
I'm sure I can't Matthew Syed is always a good read and sometimes comes up with good points for me on issues I don't completely agree with him on What's his main point here? Isn't this one oF Starmer's main points, that we've got to make the UK solvent?
Supermarkets are a scourge on all suppliers. They will grind them into the ground to get the price or threaten to stop trading with them. Capitalism at its finest I guess. I use a supermarket in Spain called Mercadona. It’s family owned so it can do what it wants without being checked by shareholder responsibility. It’s response to the floods has been phenomenal from donating food to charity kitchens to feed those who are not in a position to do it for themselves and has also set aside money to help it’s staff who have lost homes, cars or suffered damage etc. The passage below was posted 7 days ago but it outlines their commitment to the people and their staff. Assuming that the employees have insurance for their lost/damaged homes and cars, the money being put up by the company is incredible. Setting up a fund to help small businesses too is something else. Mercadona, Spain's leading food retailer and the dominant player in the Valencia region, responded quickly to the recent floods that hit the area at the end of October. The chain, which is already active in food assistance and relief efforts, announced a €40 million allocation to support employees affected by the disaster. Among the aid provided, those affected will receive up to €50.000 for devastated homes, up to €15.000 for the loss of vehicles, and various contributions based on the damage suffered. In parallel, the president of Mercadona, Juan Roig, has launched a support platform for Valencian small and medium-sized businesses affected by the emergency, with a non-repayable fund of 25 million euros and contributions of up to 10.000 euros per company. In addition to financial support, Mercadona has urgently distributed food and water to the affected populations, delivering more than 300 tons of food, 1.200 pallets of water and around 15.000 hot meals daily, using its warehouses and vehicles in collaboration with local suppliers.

This is why I hate the left. Instead of any self responsibility and working hard, they want to take the wealth of others. Capitalism is BY FAR the best method of organising a society. Millions of people would KILL to be born in the UK with our opportunities. Yet instead of recognising this fact and working hard, people in the UK moan and try and steal the fruits of others labour.

More than a little bit presumptive, Os? For a start, to be a Bitcoin millionaire now at the point you "told everyone to buy Bitcoin", they'd to have staked over £110k at that moment. Not everyone, strangely enough, has a spare £110k to chuck at what was (and still is) a gamble. It's a bit like me saying "if you'd only put £110k on the 10-1 horse I told you that then won, you could be a millionaire now". Just talking generically “you”. Not really directed at anyone on here But directed at the general nihilism and leftist ideology which has captured the UK. It irks me that people are throwing capitalism in the bin. I really think the lefts ideals come from a position of extreme privilege
Okay, I get that to a degree. It's extreme privilege to believe that people might be able to chuck a hundred grand at a gamble though, no?!
So hard working people who struggle to pay their bills, fall into debt, and are forced to give up half their income to private landlords in order to live in overcrowded sub-standard housing, only have themselves to blame because they didn’t but Bitcoin? That’s not a world view I’m ever going to share. I did take a punt on Bitcoin btw, years ago and certainly not because of advice from anyone on here. It’s called gambling, and for most gamblers it’s recreational; for others, it’s exceptionally harmful. I certainly wouldn’t recommend planning a household budget on projected gambling winnings.
