If it gets up the likes of Clarkson and Lowe's noses and into their wallets it's ****ing funny. Amendments maybe needed to properly target tax policy.
Please, I don’t want to get banned for directly insulting you but you’re making this very difficult. If a farmer who earns 30k a year working 24/7, suddenly gets given a £600k tax bill…. Where is he going to get the money? On top of this, they’ve raised rates on vehicles, farming essentials etc. Farmers have been absolutely clobbered by this inept budget. For you to disregard this and wave your arms saying “oh they’re asset rich so it doesn’t matter” shows such an unbelievable lack of empathy, compassion and knowledge of how the country operates
Name? It's Only A Game. My friends call me It's but quite often I'm called Gamer or Gammo for short. My mother doesn't like the shortened version so calls me It is as that's what I was Christened. She's the only person I allow to call me by my full name. What about me? I'm a non smoker with a GSH. I have all my own teeth but a bit challenged in the hair department. The years haven't been kind to my appearance. In my youth I was compared to a film star but nowadays it's usually Shrek. I'm kind to children and wish for world peace. What do I want? Ideally, I'm looking for a bosomy blonde with long legs who can look after me in my old age and occasionally give me a bath. The job would be a live-in position but this arrangement is still in it's developmental stage as I haven't run this bit past my wife yet. What are my hopes for the future? Another 10yrs would be good but given family history, unlikely. I don't waste my time on internet platforms or follow a football team, as that only leads to severe disappointment and would only reduce my aim of another 10yrs. Take that not606 forum for example. The politics thread used to be a right old hoot, with a group of low intelligent, low testosterone, name calling, lefties up against a capitalist, covid jab denier, anti illegal immigration campaigner, Trump apologist, football supporting hothead, and more recently pro farmer. It all made for great entertainment when I came in from the garden. Make a coffee, pull up a chair, sit back and enjoy the show. But the authoritarian moderators have turned it into a polite, respectful and adult platform. Now it's all "I respect your right to an opinion but I don't agree with that Os" or "that's a very intelligent and well presented synopsis you've posted there Jabs". Whatever happened to the witty banter such as "you're a conspiraloon Osvaldorama" and "you thick twat (insert name here)". The only entertainment left for me is guessing how long Os can go before his life ban is activated, we all know it's coming.
Did you read my last sentence? Or previous post from Sustain? You are willfully misinterpreting what I'm saying about targeting the likes of Clarkson's admitted use of land ownership for tax benefits and amendments to do just that. You made up this up it's a total lie “oh they’re asset rich so it doesn’t matter” yes I'm calling you a liar. You don't have have the intellectual capacity to understand by trumpeting shrill hysteria, thinly veiled insults and self invented text you've lost the plot.
Os, I am curious. Where does a farmer working 24/7 now get a £600k tax bill? Are you saying their current career is work on their father's farm, eking out a minimum wage and then dad dies and they have to pay this? If that is their father, there is no tax at all on £1.5million's worth of land. If dad was married, there is no tax on £3mil. The tax that will be paid can be spread over 10 years. To be paying £600k on 20% of the money after £1.25m over 10 years (the minimum tax free amount), the farm had to be worth £4.25million. That is a very tiny minority of farms. More realistically, a normal £1.5 mill farm will be £60,000 over ten years - or £6 grand per year. I am trying to work out your maths.
This is fair. But can we make it one month rather than permanent? I wouldn't want Os or myself to be removed forever #christmasamnesty
14 years of austerity. 14 years of deliberately underfunding the NHS to breaking point. 14 years of hammering the welfare state 14 years of pushing more and more people into poverty 14 years of doing nothing to fix social care 14 years of underfunding education whilst allowing tax breaks for private schools I am sure I could think of others but I can’t be arsed, but those few examples are what all Tory governments strive for. The sooner Tory voting working people realise that they are of no importance to the Tory party, except for election time, the sooner the country will have a chance to recover.
This article by Matthew Syed backs up Os's point in fairness. It's worth a read (I'm sure you can get around the paywalls yourselves). https://www.thetimes.com/comment/co...in-stay-solvent-labour-keir-starmer-mrn98bn9p
Well yeah, but I’m kind of saying if we stop spending on it then there’s better transport options to fund
I know. But the truth is that the country is on its knees financially and the anti-tax narrative has stopped us generating any cash. And when we borrow people complain about that. We are hamstrung as a society by the selfishness of people fooled into thinking paying your way in society is wrong. It is depressing.
You'll get nowhere with sensible factual arguments on this subject I fear. I did think however anything that unites kemi badenoch and Jeremy Clarkson in spluttering ranting bile is very definitely A GOOD THING.
Oil and chemical companies who created a high-profile alliance to end plastic pollution have produced 1,000 times more new plastic in five years than the waste they diverted from the environment, according to new data obtained by Greenpeace. The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) was set up in 2019 by a group of companies which include ExxonMobil, Dow, Shell, TotalEnergies and ChevronPhillips, some of the world’s biggest producers of plastic. They promised to divert 15m tonnes of plastic waste from the environment in five years to the end of 2023, by improving collection and recycling, and creating a circular economy They really don’t give a ****
