Some of it will be tied up though. New contracts deadline day signings, Isidor future clause. It’s definitely being used. It’ll have been planned aswell should he have left
If I remember correctly around £3-4m on Aleksic and Abdullahi, then any loan fee and wage contributions for Mepham and Samed. A good chunk of it has been spent with money left for January. Good business.
Mundle barely played when he signed now look at him, Hume barely played for around a year after we signed him, Mayenda barely played last season and he started this season very well. Mepham and Samed were signings for right now, one has worked very well (a lot of metrics have Mepham as the best centre back in the league) the other has not worked so far but still plenty time in the season to go. Aleksic and Abdullahi were signings for next season and beyond. It's good business because Aleksic is probably your Rigg replacement when he goes for massive money which means the replacement is already in the building, knows the club, knows the system and can fit straight in while we use whatever money Rigg brings in on other areas of the squad. Just like Mundle replaced Clarke even though he was signed the season before. We're going to continue to operate like this. People need to get used to it and realise that it works.
That’s exactly how the model works but people can’t see it. People moan we sign youngsters but it’s the progression planning as much as people hate that phrase is there things we can do better? Of course. But nobody is perfect
Thankyou mate for sharing that. Alot of people dig me out and dislike me for anything negative i say, i just want answers and share answers with like minded fans like you
Ex manager self preservation has kicked in I see. Mepham is like 18 months older than Ballard and has played 20 odd more career games than Dan Neil. Also I’m wondering when Bradley Dack is due to make his debut for France u19s?
I was happy for Mowbray to go but I felt for him after last summer. Pathetic window after such a strong first season back up
That doesn't make sense mate. You were glad for him to go because thats the Sunderland way and as soon as things go bad had 90% of our fanbase instantly call out for a new manager in the hope he can make a miracle happen. Its embarrassing
It makes perfect sense. He wasn’t really backed last summer and I had sympathy for him, especially with the centre forward situation but performances were getting worse and we looked a completely different side to the one that had reached the play-offs a few months earlier. It was time for a change, shame his replacement was an absolute clown.
In hindsight we should have let Mowbray go when we were in for Farioli. Simply because they clearly didn't fancy Mowbray and ended up giving him half a chance which didn't work out well for anyone involved.
In real bother French football, bizarre but not surprising how its falling apart as unlike english football the tv deal was more or less built around one club....no tv deal & whole thing falls like a pack of cards as clubs already banked on that income. Few articles saying the will need to off load whatever they can..... therefore they wont get market value One article i read stated other clubs in group would need to seel players to fund Lyon, eh Crystal Palace, but other bits disagreed.....im not sure how that would work as surely can transfer funds between clubs. However it may well have a direct knock on effect to clubs in couple of countries Interesting to see how much Gift Orban is worth now, desperate to sell & they haven't been playing him so his value with have dropped anyway
If we tried to sign the players now, that we have in the starting line up, we would have to fork out £100m ... ... the only way we can have players like Bellingham and Mundle is to take chances. Sometimes it works and then there's Hemir
We should have got a striker, difficult one however as few have pointed out since your first post, club has progressed since TM so were in a different place signing players both wages wise & experienced players wanting to come. Even last season when we were really desperate for one, its clear after its played out the club simply sign players for the sake unless were happy its the right player.....this push majority of our patience post xmas last season.....but now were seeing the fruit of that & were in decent financial shape entering the next window not panicking thinking we have to go up or were screwed financially. Every time TM mentions he could only bing in youth or kids from France....theres a simple reply in my head.... Bradley Dack.....clear as day that was a TM signing & his failure may well have made the club wary of listening to more requests
Ultimately this little outburst gets taken with a pinch of salt. TM has always been a git big moaner. In this instance, it’s typical behaviour from Brit managers of his generation. Half truths and omissions to friendly journos to burnish his image so he can get back on the merry go round. Doubtfire does the exact same thing. But ultimately he just can’t stop himself moaning. Ultimately that inability to can it lost him the safc job imo. And we can’t claim we didn’t know it, given we witnessed his Barcelona of the Black Country go up against Keane’s vastly inferior Sunderland side all this years ago He did a good job at our place for sure. He stabilised us and played some great footy. However I think that bit of overachievement in season one left him a bit giddy. Sure there were transfer issues, but his limitations and performance contributed to the downturn too. Even then, though, I’m certain he’d have been allowed to carry on if he could just have kept his gob shut.
Bruce didn't shut up about Sunderland for years ... ... shame Mowbray has to repeat the procedure after we'd praised him and paid him so well. Foreign managers don't seem to have to constantly moan about how nothing was ever their fault. Perhaps that's why British managers don't get the top jobs, who knows eh?
https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...as-january-transfer-window-approaches-4870440 Members of Sunderland’s scouting team were spotted watching an EFL game last weekend. The January transfer window is fast approaching with the Black Cats under Kristjaan Speakman and Stuart Harvey likely to eye reinforcements to aid Régis Le Bris’ promotion push. The Black Cats are currently top of the Championship on goal difference ahead of next Saturday’s game against Millwall at The Den. Ahead of the game, however, two of Sunderland’s scouting team were spotted taking in the game between Crewe Alexandra and Notts County in League Two on Saturday, with both Matt Barratt and Chris Morris in attendance from the Wearsiders recruitment team. Crewe Alexandra won the game 2-0 with goals from 26-year-old Shilow Tracey and Ryan Cooney, 24. It is not clear who Sunderland’s scouts were in attendance to watch - however, the Railwaymen boast some exciting young talent, including 21-year-old goalkeeper Filip Marschall and 20-year-old defender Zac Williams. Alongside Sunderland’s scouts, there were also representatives from Stoke City, Swansea City, Wolves, Wigan Athletic, Hull City and Blackburn Rovers, amongst others, with the list for the game doing the rounds on social media over the weekend....
