I’m finding it worrying. Perhaps there isn’t the money left to sack him and employ someone else. Either because someone’s run off with the money, or because someone has run us right up to the FFP limit.
im pretty sure Baz said paying a manager off doesnt count on your ffp limit He also said there was money in jan for a striker, the only sticky point is we are at our max squad numbers, so we'd need to sell some players or de-register liam and Mo. which makes sense if they wont play again this season
The concern is - if we're struggling in January - which player will want to come in. We might need a bit of realism this season.
I don't see an exclusion for managers to be honest: https://www.efl.com/documents/efl-handbook.pdf Adjusted Earnings Before Tax means Earnings Before Tax adjusted to exclude: (a) costs (or estimated costs as the case may be) in respect of the following: (i) depreciation and/or impairment of tangible fixed assets (net of any capital grants); (ii) amortisation or impairment of goodwill and other intangible assets (but excluding amortisation and/or impairment of the costs of players’ registrations); (iii) Women’s Football Expenditure; (iv) Youth Development Expenditure; (v) Community Development Expenditure; (vi) in respect of Season 2024/25 a Cost of Living Allowance of £2,500,000; and (b) with effect from, and including the Accounting Reference Period covering Season 2021/22, profit/loss on disposal of any tangible fixed asset. With effect from Season 2023/24, this includes any profit/loss that may be derived directly or indirectly or for the disposal of any intangible asset (directly or indirectly) where its value derives materially from the ownership of a tangible asset.
A few on here have said that we need a proven Championship manager with experience of the top six or promotion. I've had a look and I believe this is every manager that has taken a team into the top six since we were last promoted to the premier league, ordered by the number of times they've done so. Steve Cooper 3 Daniel Farke 3 Scott Parker 2 Carlos Carvalhal 2 Marcelo Bielsa 2 Chris Hughton 2 Paul Heckingbottom 2 Slaviša Jokanović 2 Carlos Corberán 2 Steve Bruce 2 David Wagner 2 Thomas Frank 2 Russell Martin 1 Nuno Espírito Santo 1 Frank Lampard 1 Jonathan Woodgate 1 Rafael Benítez 1 Kieran McKenna 1 Sean Dyche 1 Darren Moore 1 Jaap Stam 1 Chris Wilder 1 Dean Smith 1 Tony Mowbray 1 Rob Edwards 1 Valérien Ismaël 1 Enzo Maresca 1 Xisco Muñoz 1 Slaven Bilić 1 Neil Harris 1 Gary Rowett 1 Neil Warnock 1 Nigel Pearson 1 Marco Silva 1 Tony Pulis 1 Mark Robins 1 Vincent Kompany 1 Michael Carrick 1 Aitor Karanka 1 Nathan Jones 1 Who would we want from that list? Who could we realistically get?
We couldn’t get him but for me it would be Thomas Frank. Though our fans wouldn’t have wanted him when Brentford got him, foreigner with only 3 years as a manager in a farmers league in Denmark with no experience in the Championship.
The ones on that list who are worth having wouldn’t come. We don’t need to look further than Mark Robins. Former striker so can tutor our shot-shy squad. Great achievements with Coventry, and a good bloke to boot.
He said it does count, because it does. The only exempt spends are on the youth team, women's team and infrastructure.
A manager I'd have in a heartbeat who isn't on that list .. Graham Potter, not sure he'd drop down to our level but as far as I'm aware he's been out of a job since his Chelsea gig.
Seems someone at Norwich did a better job of identifying and signing a striker from a Turkish club than we with all our connections there can manage.
Re Potter.... someone will know better, but when he was sacked at Chelsea he had a massive pay off. is it right that it stands unit he gets his next job, in which case, he can just sit on his salary for the term of his contract before having to look again...? RE Robbins... maybe the question has been asked today and Acun doesnt trust the other coaching staff to take over before he has had chance to confirm someones interest or otherwise.
