Suppose their player had buried that gifted by Hughes chance, but for the finger tips save. What if they'd scored from that melee near the end (when they probably should have done). And, what if one of those penalty shouts were given, particularly that one 2nd half which at the time I thought was one (not mentioned on here or maybe I missed it?). But you are right in that it is so often such fine margins .... either way.
Goes either way all this, but it's the exact reason why I'm not hell bent on Walter out yet. We should have more points on the board by now; but it's not due to the tactics. We've had the chances to win a few more of our games than we should have, or claim a point where we've lost. The biggest issue I'm seeing is player decision making, but again, that's going to happen when we've overturned the majority of the squad. Look at Puerta. Looks decent. But how many has he played for us now? 4 or 5 games tops? Kamara was very much bit part until Millar got injured.
Indeed, and I'm not trying to use it to defend him, it's like you said how the fine margins can really change the entire situation....fwiw didn't think either were penalties in particular....and one I mentioned on the thread but no one else seems to have flagged.....for the move that took them down the line for their goal, from where I am in the South stand, almost bang in line with the touchline, I was utterly convinced that the ball went out of play...again, fine lines of a lino's flag going up and that ball never comes in. Sadly we must deal with the reality of the situation tho.
Ten Hag was sacked despite all their easy misses against West ham. It's perhaps harsh but it's about more than one result.
On another day the linesman flags Belloumi as offside in the buildup to the first goal and we don't even score. Fine margins.
Belloumi's control of the long ball in the second half was so good, the lino should have let him off being offside, it deserved a goal.
Thats the point Hes onside and the linesman deserves credit for it But another day, a linesman could have easily incorrectly called it offside
If the Championship implemented VAR, I think it could have gone either way it's so tight. Personally, I thought he was offside at the time, but we're talking centimetres at most. It doesn't really matter though: the point was that for every fine margin that could have meant we had another goal, there are fine margins that could have ruled out the one we did get. It feels like our games are being determined by luck at the moment, not skill.
Sorry to be a pedant, but it was in the first half wasn't it. He was attacking near the North-East corner when it came over his head and he brought it down beautifully, but was offside.
