Good appointment in my opinion.

I would agree. He has an excellent track record so far. I thought Liverpool might go for him. I just hope he gets time from their fans.

I messaged a season ticket holder of 40 years at Old Trafford earlier. He said they expect immediate fixes to problems that were emerging even under Fergie. He reckons it is at least 5 years before they can be anywhere close to a league challenge again.

I don't think the fans are that bad. They tend to stick by their own, ETH, Maguire etc. It's the team/squad. It's garbage.

I know it's hard for fans and directors/owners but I think they have to pretty much ignore results for a year or so, within reason obviously, and focus purely on development and getting the squad to Amorims liking. They are miles away from competing at the top anyway as you say so may aswell take the time to get it right.

Strong Portuguese links to United so interesting that. He has a beautiful squad at Sporting that plays really nice high paced attacking football. If he fetches Inacio, Quaresma, Gyokeres and Goncalves with him United are in business

There could be a ‘clear out’ at Man Utd if one of those comes in. There are too many players there who just don’t fit together. Personally I don’t think we’ve another chance of Amad Diallo but who knows with this club any more.

That would be 5 VERY good years with unreal recruitment too. They’re miles off Liverpool and Arsenal never mind City. Luckily for them PSR protects them and they can continue to waste absurd amounts of money

The right appointment n a good window or 2 changes everything tho. Villa were in a relegation battle, appoint a top class manager n then had a couple of cracking windows and they finished 4th

They def seem a mile off at the minute, they have a lot of overrated players n zero balance in their squad. Couple good windows n the right managerial appointment is key

Will always be hard for teams to win the league as long as Pep is at City

Be interesting to see if those players improve under a new manager. If what I’m told is true by academy coaches there Rashford won’t be losing sleep over this change. ETH not popular with a few. Discipline without credibility or consistency.

Defo.. but arsenal had the right appointment and 10 windows up until now and they still haven’t toppled them. I look at that United team and other than a few of the younger lads (mainoo, garnacho) I don’t really see anyone that’s a must keep. There’s no players even close to world class starting regularly for them.

I think the point about Villa is a good one because they secured 4th. And at the minute that’s what United are aiming for every season. They need to build toward becoming a CL regular again before even thinking about winning the title

When I have watched Man U recently I have questioned what they are doing on the coaching pitch tbh. They look lacking in any sort of playing identity or pattern. It all seems very off the cuff to me. Ten Hag has a reputation as a disciplinarian, which is ok so long as you can also produce winning styles of football. Otherwise players wont take to the discipline stuff imo.

I do think they have some players, like Anthony, who are a mile off. Others though just need a decent set of coaches giving them a clear style of play. Amorim should be a good fit in that respect. Others would be too. A good training ground coach will transform the squad from where they ate now to top 6/8 very quickly imo. Then it is about adding players.

I think Bruno is a big issue for them, no doubt a talented player but one who does what he wants rather than playing as part of a team. Out of possession he just runs about but it lacks any intelligence n makes united easy to play through

They do have some good younger players who could develop but also a lot of bang average/inconsistent players who are on silly wages

That’s not far off.

Dalot is actually top player mind, stayed under radar as he was poor to start but through last 2 seasons he is one of best RB in the game.

Those 3 are about it. Bruno is the most ludicrously overrated player in the world, although if it’s Amorim there’s no way he peddles Bruno.

It’s Manchester United though, and as has been said the right manager and 2 years and everything can change.

Villa is the best pointer to it. Stunning job by Emery and they have done it in style. There’s no doubt United can fund it. They can take in hundreds of millions on sales, and they have more wriggle room than most due to the absolute whale sized commercial deals.

It’s a mess down there but clubs that big don’t die and disappear. They really are too big.

It’s going to be fascinating to watch what happens next with Ratcliffe there.

Bang on mate. They really lack identity. You can see with other teams ie Brighton wanting to dominate the ball, Villa setting up really disciplined and playing brilliant counter attacking typical of Emery.. Spurs with the high press. United just don’t have anything, each game they almost go out and have to play against whichever team impose their style on them and big clubs shouldn’t have to do that.

It would be an exciting rebuild for a lot of money if they’re given a fair say in who comes and goes, United will always be able to attract the best players but they need to get it right this time because there’s smaller clubs getting better and better every season which is only going to make solidifying themselves as a top 4 team harder and harder.

They need more than a manager or head coach. They have loads of players that are virtually un-sellable because of their absurd wages. Huge holes in the squad, ( do they have a functioning left back for instance?) and are used to playing a baffling style which even the players can't understand.

This last can be fixed, but the rest could take five years or more, even if they get everything right from this point on.

It's not that different to us appointing a good boss under the three chancers. The problems through the club will always drag on the first team until they are sorted.
