Mepham and Aleksic available now. Samed available within the next 2 weeks. Abdullahi to have surgery and be available in around 12 weeks. Apparently the club knew of the injury issue before signing him.
The comments on that straight on the attack, probably the same ones slating ‘signing a kid’ in the first place
It's a bit frustrating but he was never going to be starting any time soon anyway. He has a 5 year contract, missing 12 weeks is not an issue as long as Mayenda/Isidor do the business.
It seems like a badge of honour/competition for some people on twitter - how much of a dickhead they can be!
Yeah indeed. I think the reaction to this will be similar to signings we may end up making in January. Spending big for that season in January is pretty dumb money most of the time. We should all prepare for the club to make more Mundle type signings in January. Great if they make an instant impact but the main aim is for them to be good players for the next 3-5 years. We just need more and more of these longer term bets to have paid off, so the plan becomes more robust and less arguable. It'll start to quieten down chatter of the form of 'where's the Clarke (or the next one) money gone, man?'
It's really bizarre as we needed another striker to go alongside Isidore and Mayenda now and we seemingly didn't bother as they new AA was injured. A big risk imo Explains Rusyn not leaving though
Abdullahi was never going to be starting anytime soon, that was a separate signing to the other targets we went for in the window. Is it frustrating? Yes. Not sure i'd call it bizarre though, we've made plenty of these types of signings and some of them are making huge impacts currently in the first team. Hume, Mayenda, Mundle.
I understand why we sign young players but KS told us he was ready to make an immediate impact which clearly isn't the case. We're still short up front imo.
Yeh AA was barely going to play this year anyway. Its just a shame he'll be rehabbing not playing for the U21s.
'Immediate' within football circles is a longer period than it is within fans. If he contributes at all this season that is an immediate impact. We were short up front if Abdullahi was injured or not, it makes no difference.
Immediate is this season in football terms tho Doesn't mean he will be available for the very 1st game after he's signed
20 games to go. Perhaps less if he comes back. Similar to the full back situation. If Abdullahi impacts the first team this season he'll have hit his mark. The big question for me will be what we do in January. The evidence from strikers making a breakthrough last year (Simms, Lath, Wright etc) would suggest that the learning done in the first half of the season by a talented striker can pay off big time in the second half - even if the goal numbers aren't great before year end. If we've got around 5 goals each from Mayenda and Isidor I'd personally hope we don't disturb things by bringing in a striker above them.
Worth saying that it was immediate competition, rather than impact. I think it's probably fair for us to say that the hope was that immediate would mean immediate. But what value would there be in them adding a caveat to the end of that statement that said 'but he does have a slight injury that may mean he misses some time'? And I'd strongly guard against the usual hyper analysis of what KS says in the search for some sort of gotcha. It was a statement that was released at 1 in the morning at the end of a no doubt hectic day. Sometimes **** just happens.
