Not having a go at you mate as I've seen a lot of people say the same thing about we needed to get more for Clarke due to the sell-on. I just don't understand it, personally.

A player is worth £x amount to the buying club, how that cash gets divvied up is irrelevant to them. Teams aren't gonna pay us £25m for a £20m player just because we owe Spurs some money. I find it really baffling that some people expected that to be the case
No I certainly didn't expect that, I just thought the club would have wanted £18 million before we gave spurs anything.

Had a similar thing with a lad who refused to celebrate Maja scoring. Had a thing for loving players who ran around like headless chickens because they were 'trying'.
The ‘lazy’ thing seems disproportionately levied at a certain demographic of player. Hope that’s not the case, but regularly feels to me like it is

I'm sure they wanted more than £18 million tbh, sadly no one was buying ...

... Clarke didn't have a good career until he came to Sunderland and has yet to prove himself against PL full backs.

I'm certainly not counting on a huge sell on payment.

Good read that sounds very exciting.
I think it is a really smart signing. I am all for it. My only alternative concern is we see a lot of young lads coming into England and not excelling. Arguably Adil and Ba are our examples. I am really excited to see how he goes, but am kind of expecting him to have a smattering of appearances this season and perhaps being more relevant next season. Nowt wrong with that either btw, smart by the club. If he proves ready now even better.

Haven’t seen the club put anything up about the new striker yet but sure KS said he’s been training, no photo shoot or out.

hopefully see something this week.

Sounds like he is a successor for either Rigg or Jobe - great move by the club

I only know one person who 'supports' Man City and he mentioned this player a year back but I paid no attention.

He reminded me, after we'd signed him, and asked how we'd managed it.

Again, I've no idea because I've never heard of him.

He reckons Man City wanted him, as did a few other top clubs, but he wants first team football.

It's all becoming a bit surreal.

BTW, let me know if you're over this season, be good to meet up mate.

I know he’s (obviously) older than Rigg, but I actually see him as potentially succession planning for when Rigg does go. Like Mundle with Clarke.

Can see us selling Rigg for c£40m in the summer and Aleksic settle in to the role Rigg seems to be making his own currently.

You can really see a pattern developing with all this ...

... after decades of total chaos this will take some getting used to.

Me and my dad had STs back in the day and the bloke sat behind me absolutely hated Jordan Henderson, like really hated him, criticised him all game every game, some really foul stuff. One game Hendo had a stormer, scored two, think it was Wigan but I might be wrong, he sat cross armed all game and said nowt. What a massive twat. Why do that to yourself?
This happened with a bloke slagging Joffy behind me. He was just finishing slagging him off when he let one fly off his boot and scored, nearly every one turned around and laughed at him while celebrating. He actually stayed seated and didn’t even cheer

This is why it's best to keep a balanced view and not condemn anyone as ****e until they've proved it's the case. Probably a fair few people who wrote O'Nien off at CB adding him into their Fantasy Football teams and hoping nobody notices.

You want to be in a situation where any of our players can score or do something brilliant and you're not conflicted in your emotions and/or feeling like a hypocrite.

Remember Thomas Hauser scoring being a particularly fine moment to celebrate. Absolute clogger but he kept trying. Just looked him up and he actually scored 9 goals for us which is way better than I remember.

What a sad, sad man.

Personal preference but I would never boo my own player, it serves no purpose whatsoever. If someone cocks up I either stay quiet or moan under my breadth.

I think as a fan you have to try and stay patient, especially with passing as if you want a bold, exciting and daring team you are going to have to put up with the odd miss pass and look at is as hard lines.

The worst part was him not even celebrating when we scored. Borderline heretical tbh.

Interesting that the Palace owner came out other day and said, re Olise ‘if we don’t let talent go, we will stop getting it’

Palace are a very well established PL club with some genuinely brilliant talent. They don’t have our ceiling.

It is a path to growth, if you grow enough, then players only leave for super clubs. If we got to Palace level, for example, we aren’t losing many players to PL clubs, how many clubs are bigger than us? If we finished say 10th PL in 3 years time (not suggesting we will), and say Jobe, Rigg still here, then there’s very limited clubs that’s a step up and they’d have to pay Olise money.

The one thing against us really is time. We have to get to the PL in the next 2 seasons. There’s no pot of players with the potential of Rigg. There’s not a load of Jobes.

I think come the end of this season, say we got up, we’d have Cirks, Hume, Neil, Jobe & Rigg who could continue in the PL.

Highly likely Roberts could, that ball holding ability is ‘any level’, Mundle if he continues as he has he’d be close.

The PL is tough, but that first season you have to beat 3 teams to survive.

Do we have the money to add 4-5? Have the players we’ve got developed enough I the next 42 games to be good enough?

It’s actually a bit of a mad time really, as several of these players may well be PL level ready by end of season, and settled in the club. We could, in theory, go up with a settled team that has developed into a PL side together.

I’m not sure that’s happened before teams that have survived have bought survival. Palace actually a good example of having a core that stepped up and adding to it without going crazy.

42 games is a long way to go, so probably need to look end of January and see where our players are.

It’s really exciting but riddled with ‘maybes’.

The ace up the sleeve of course is new investment or even new ownership if we get up. The profile from the Netflix documentary might be a massive appeal to the American market if we had PL status.

Just no ****ing Saudis thanks, and ideally KLD Mam hoys shim a few quid to do it himself <laugh>
Americans like chelsea? No thanks

What about Americans like Arsenal, Fulham, West Ham, Palace & Villa though?

Only really Chelsea and Liverpool not keen on their owners and in reality Liverpool owners have been brilliant, just that their fans expect to be winning every year, despite one in 20 odd years.

Generally American sports ownership is about as good as it gets.
