Personally I see the workrate thing as massively exaggerated amongst our fanbase. He's perfectly capable of defensive work. His defensive numbers last year were on a par with Dan Neil's. He's also more of a goal threat. I do understand the view that cashing in for our 5th choice cm at a decent number is reasonable. However, I'd be having a very close eye on the potential for him to be 1st/2nd choice this time next year if we don't get promoted.
Agreed. I think it's focus he lacks rather than work rate

For me, it all depends if Ekwah can bring the intensity when he plays. He is excellent on those days.

Can he do enough consistently to get in ahead of Jobe/Rigg/Browne/Neil? At present, clearly not, otherwise RLB would have him in ahead of the others.

RLB mentions 'consistency' an awful lot and that is Pierre's achilles heal. If he isn't going to play regularly, his game is going to suffer. he doesn't really fit the DCM mould where we need the extra man in the squad, and needs regular playing time to develop that part of his game/much better consistency.

Agree,if our judgement is they won't reach the required standard and we can replace with better,no argument. However,we've seen something in these lads and with better and more settled coaching,I wouldn't write them all off. They could yet produce their promise.
It’s a tough call and not helped by terrible coaching and judgment last season and I include Mowbray in that with his ‘clever’ tactics that made us worse. It makes us judge players with ability badly or at least be ‘unsure’. I own up to being wrong about Roberts who is like a new player, the same could apply to others

Mowbray is the primary culprit when it comes to any fall-off for Ekwah IMO. He hobbled him with the nonsensical switch of him and Neil as the player at the base of midfield.

Last year must have been a nightmare for these players...the constant coaching changes left a lot of them confused. Hopefully now,we can start...as you rightly say with Roberts...to give them the opportunity to thrive.

For me he doesn’t have the work rate RLB wants for midfield. It’s a big sign that it’s the case when RLB doesn’t seem to use him or even bring him on. I think this is smart personally as we can recruit two strikers and a replacement for ekwah in the case of a young CM who ticks the boxes
Agree with this, Roberts’ work rate seems to be on another level to what it was last season.

Not many clubs in the championship could turn down 6-7 million for their 5th choice CM. I like Ekwah n think theres a cracking player there but I also know that he might not fit into RLBs system. I dont think he has the aggression needed with his pressing to play this system of football and therefore if selling him brings in a CM that fits the system better we would be stupid not to do it (imo)

Hopefully be a busy few days as strengthen the squad n bringing in more firepower is keen for us to keep kicking on
This is it really. Neil is suspended for Saturday and I still don't think he'll be in the team. Seems silly to carry a squad player worth that much when that money could be redistributed throughout the squad.

I mean you’d like to think so, but his wages be massive.

A 6ft plus lad who can play DM and scores the odd goal for nowt?

You’d hope we’d have a look but it’s probably not the market we are in wages wise.

Be £35k or so a week plus hefty sign on fee.
Given the club's after him I imagine he'll be taking a drop in wage wherever he goes. Probably still too much for us though
