I think they know they've overpaid but will back McKenna to develop him. He's got such rare attributes and if you improve him in front of goal, you've got one hell of a player

And some peak at a young age due to build height and strength and get caught up and overtaken as it’s been too easy for them

yea thats very true and common
you can be stronger and faster than others at youth level
but once you get to pro level, its a different story

Yep. Niclas Fullkrug who just signed for West Ham is a great example of somebody who peaked later in their career. Only capped first time for Germany in 2022, but he's a proper beast.

Now watch him **** out for West Ham.

depends what you define as a proper beast
theres a reason hes signed for west ham

hes what id call a mid prem player
    which is good ofcourse

    but dortmund have bigger ambitions
not going to beat bayern to the league with a forward like fullkrug

hes a john carew type player

I swear the only good games he's had were when Ally McCoist was on commentary.

it was also a problem for germany
they had him as their main forward
not a good thing at euros or world cups
itd be like england having carlton morris as their main forward

havertz is not an out and out forward like fulkrug
and the statement 'havertz was first choice' is not a good sign lol

What are you talking about? Just because we're bringing in signings that are better than what we have doesn't mean anything other than exactly that. Hughes is better than McLoughlin.

That's certainly valid, but when it's a cheap youth signing I don't think it needs the level of criticism it's had.

I'd love to know the actual reason these signings take so long.

I know all the clichés; there's a lot that goes into a transfer, medicals etc, it's not like Football Manager, and so on. But on deadline day deals get done within a day out of nowhere. So why is it that when it's not deadline day it takes so long to get a transfer done? I understand that sometimes the selling club might want to leave it until the end of the window or until they've signed replacements. But in the case of Hughes for example, how can it take so long to finalise after a fee has been agreed, when the fee was supposedly the one thing holding it up for the last few weeks? Presumably at least one party for some reason must be holding it up to some extent, but I can't imagine why that'd be in anybody's interest. Surely Hughes will be desperate to get it done as soon as possible, with every extra day he can train with us being valuable to his prospects of being in the team as soon as possible, and surely we'd want that too. Can't imagine how delaying it would benefit Wigan at this point. So again, even allowing for all the clichés about it not being simple, I'd love to know what it is specifically that holds these deals up, and why they're able to fast-track it when they really need to.

Careful, I made this point a few weeks ago and got rubbished. <laugh>

It is quite crazy isn't it? All I can say is in this instance if all three have been registered and are training, I couldn't care less if they were announced now, or when they're on the team sheet an hour before Plymouth. If it's done, it's done. It is all a bit funny though.

I think we may finally be getting a triple announcement like everyone reckons Acun is planning to do at one stage
