As I said before, we keep our cards close to our chest these days, who knows what else is going on, but it seems to me that Mendy is the player they want. Remember, there's still two and a bit weeks before deadline day, all of this worry is for nowt when we get the deal done on August 30th.
As much as I can remember the owner went against the recommendations of the head coach and his background staff. They'd decided he wasn't worth any more than £1m but the owner paid £3m . Didn't they tell him not to do it ? Now if we'd managed to get the lad for £1m maybe he could have been sold on for around that figure ? All guesswork of course. Regarding Mendy it sounds as if nothing was signed off so they can do what they want ? Have we any other targets ? Well I'd hope so. Hopefully we can pay £5m and over for the right striker. At present I've got doubts. What's the budget ? Nobody knows but we bought a fair few last season for either side of £1m. All adds up with wages. That could easily be the Stewart money eaten away. We'll sharp find out. I'll remain positive until then.
The fact that we're not getting linked with a lot of permanent strikers isn't a negative to me. I'm taking it as Mendy being a deal that we're very confident on and we're just working through the finer details of the feeling, work permits etc. I don't know enough about Mendy to know if he'll be a success but it's better that we've scouted our man, targeted him specifically and hopefully get him rather than move on to target 3,4 or 5 just because people are impatient or want to avoid having "all our eggs in one basket".
The latest on Mendy is our offer is nowhere near what Caen want and Caen don't even want to sell him anymore but the player is unhappy and wants to go. Basically, we either have to pay what they want, or we hope Caen cave near the end as they don't want an unhappy player but who knows, to me smart business would be having other targets lined up too
I mentioned loads of strikers going to champ clubs this window the other day and our fans turn our nose up at most of them but in the next breath say we can’t afford another will grigg, we need to spend wisely etc. So where’s the middle ground? Nobody is psychic nobody knows how good a new signing will be we have take the chance. Most of our lot turned our nose up at re-signing Maja on a free and he scored more goals in one game at the weekend than all of our strikers combined last season I think
The difference is though, that "the latest" is what you're reading in the media where some links may be reliable and some links maybe not. The club have actual contacts and will know the precise situation with regards to the deal and whether it will be done. So they're clearly confident or they'd be looking around for plan b.
I really hope we bring in Mendy before the deadline. I think with the right striker in this team (Mendy looks the type), we can have a real shot at top 6. Especially if we keep Clarke.
From the weekend a striker like mendy would fit perfect. A lot of time we fired the ball into Mayenda to hold it up and play wide. Now he’s young and still growing so wasn’t the best at it from what I’ve seen of mendy and the size of him this is one of his strengths. So you can see why the club are going for him
Mayenda managed to hold the ball up once during the whole game from what I can remember, but then gave it away. The Cardiff CBs dominated him, to be expected really. Mayenda has potential but isn’t ready yet.
If i may add, there are 2 agents involved from their side, and 1 from ours, they will all want commission. We are using the same agent the Dreyfus family always use, and its who we used when we signed RLB. The 2 from Mendy's side were supposedly asking around a million Euros split between them. That came from a top French football agent. AND when Mendy reported back he was 7kg overweight, they went ballistic with him.
