Growing to love this Reg lad already me. Look forward to quotes from him, every time. He proper gets the game.
Comparing the big Mayenda 1v1 to the two chances Rashford had against City and I think people are being a bit overly critical, he should have scored but at least he caught it well, got it in the corner and made the keeper work, unlike the latter. There's definitely something there but as others have said it would bordering on a negligence not to address the striker situation by the end of the window.
I personally would want to keep Mayenda here and not send him on loan even if we sign two strikers. I think he’d benefit more from being here and getting the odd game in the cups or off the bench. The opposite for Hemir who needs to go and play games. I quite like the sound of Lankshear as a loan option as long as we sign an experienced striker. I also think Jebbison would be good for our style. Runs the channels really well and presses well. Not the most composed finisher but not bad. Tom Cannon is still my preferred loan option, if we could get him and keep him for I’d be confident we would be serious play off contenders.
That's my thoughts as well, he's had the big move and it didn't work out. I know people say money talks, but does it really? Yes he could get loads more moving to a premier league team, but I do think Clarke and most of our players would rather be playing week in week out than sitting on the bench or not even playing
I do think he loves being an hour from home as well. Signs are he didn’t really like the London life. If we can say ‘see where we are in January’ and we fighting, maybe. He is being linked with clubs that really we should be able to compete with in the future. I think if it was a level up like a Fulham or West Ham then maybe. Not sure Brentford or similar really is gonna make him want away.
Cannon has always looked like a good fit. Not sure there isn’t a real problem since the injury. We’d need to explore that before we did anything.
I’m in a similar situation at work, not double or treble, but an extra £8k or so for doing what I do now! I love the team I’m in, great gaffer and lads and lasses, but money talks!
£160 a week is a lot to give up. Although money is nice job satisfaction is worth so much more imo. I took a £200 a week pay cut about 12 years ago to try something new (I was an electrician) and have never regretted it. Fortunately for me the money has went back up significantly. At the end of the day at least it will be your decision whichever way you choose. I hope you get it right mate.
Mind, I’ve just taken a (tiny) pay cut to work for a company I prefer the setup and direction of. Can go both ways, more so in sport where the money they make is so crazy.
Cheers mate. It will. I hope… I’m talking like £50-60 week which to be fair tax will take a slice out of. Wouldn’t cut my own throat.
Another way of looking at it was that it was a good save from their keeper. I though it was going in at first, didn’t realise that that the keeper managed to get a toe to it. We’d have been applauding Patterson if he’d did that.
From some of our fanbase you aren’t allowed to say it was a good save, only slagging off mayenda is allowed.
The thing about Clarke is that it’s working great for him here. Everything about him here is good. He’s playing all the time. He’s scoring for fun. He’s a big fish in the Championship pond. He’s adored by the fans and he looks to be having the time of his life here. If he went to Fulham or Brentford for example, little of the above would apply. Against the Mags he was poor and maybe he will have the same kind of experience as he did at Leeds and Spurs. It might work but I think it will be nothing like his time here. It’s also possible we could swap places with some of the lower premiership teams in the near future. He might get a big pay rise but there’s more than money to consider. He’s at home here, a great fit into our team and he’s happy. Why gamble. Mayender should start on Tuesday against Preston. If we could get Lankshear on a permanent or option to buy then yes, 100% but I would rather we used our own young’uns like Mayender than use other sides youth players to bring them on then send back.
