Why was the best man 2nd?

They’d obviously agreed strategy beforehand, in order to make sure of a 1-2. The lead driver pretty much always gets first dibs on pit stops, but on this occasion they pitted Lando first, on the optimum strategy, to cover off Verstappen (which they had to do). That disadvantaged Piastri massively, and he’d built and maintained a good lead to that point. So it was the right, if difficult, call to swap the positions back once they were safe again. The team always comes first.

I’m afraid Lando has gone quite rapidly from enthusiastic, bubbly young man to entitled ego. That was very much evidenced in his chat with Lewis in the cool down room. It’s not just me that thinks it either. Great driver, but the ‘son of a multi millionaire’ bit is coming to the fore now. Hopefully Oscar won’t go the same way.

Pity the punters who bet on Lando, not having the knowledge of team orders they were clearly robbed.

How does that justify a driver not trying to win the race, in many other sports he would be disqualified.

Because it’s a team sport. It’s the equivalent of being subbed in football. Piastri was the leading driver. They will have agreed (as happens in pretty much every team) that the lead driver gets the advantageous call in pit stop strategy. They had to go against that, which unfairly disadvantaged Piastri. Would have been the same if Lando had been leading and the reverse happened. It’s happened a million times before.

I am sure the losing punters will be satisfied with that response?

Sounds like Max is turning back into the spoilt baby he was a few years ago now things aren't so rosy for him.

People who don’t understand this probably shouldn’t bet on motorsport, as they clearly don’t know anything about it.

I haven't got a clue, it's gone from a boring, persistant one horse race, to a sport where the winner isn't allowed to win, because of "team orders", it stinks. I don't bet on motor sport, it barely honours the word sport, In my opinion of course, I doubt that many in the know would agree with me.

I agree Saint Osprey , the last 12 or so years have not been the best , in a BIG way .

However team orders have been around probably since the sport began .

IIRC the FIA tried to ban teams giving orders on the team radio to let so & so by .

Never worked .

Not sure if you have hard this before , but I think it’s classic .

Mclaren do what’s best for the McLaren team to win.. literally the definition of a sport. <laugh>

Personally if I was lando I would have broken team orders and gone for it anyway. But he’s a nice lad.
This happens all the time

I am only miffed because I wanted a Brit to win it, I was also miffed that Justin Rose was second again! At least the cricket team won.

It is largely a sport you need to invest some time into to really get the most out of. But then that’s true of the majority of sports, including football, and definitely cricket.
