Lando's gutted. That choice to go onto the soft rather than the medium tyre will haunt him for a while. But his time will come.
McLaren were horrid in terms of strategy for both Oscar and Lando in that race. Not quite Ferrari levels, but not far off.
Raducanu really struggling against her opponents aggressive tennis. The graphic that showed average position when striking the ball had Emma a metre behind the baseline and her opponent a metre in front of it. She could do with a decent service game instead of constantly battling deuce and Advantage points against her.
VIZ Top Tip : Tennis players - don`t pick Raducanu as a doubles partner, because she`ll drop you like a stone when it doesn`t suit her.
I think that was fair enough - she was going for a place in the 1/4 finals, after three years of misery. I can totally understand why she would prioritise that. It's a shame for Andy etc, but I thought Judy Murray was out of order there. Everyone else's career doesn't revolve around him.
Agree about Judy Murray, she`s always had too much coverage. But why agree to partner him in the first place? - seems to me the doubles was a bit of a fall back.
I think she wanted to as it would have been a lot of fun, but her progression in the singles, and the fact she’s made of glass, means she felt she couldn’t risk injury in what would have essentially been an exhibition match.
What was she meant to do? She clearly wasn't 100% as the medical timeout in her match today showed. She had to prioritise the singles.
Judy Murray says she was being sarcastic and no one gets sarcasm now. Someone said they were amazed Emma had dropped out…and she indicated she didn’t find it that amazing by saying Yes, amazing. This is the problem with texts, you don’t always get someone’s true meaning.
So I see, but I think she might have thought not to do so on a public forum. Not sure that quite washes, but there we go.
Her time out had nothing to do with any wrist issue. What was she supposed to do ? - fulfil the commitment that she made, that`s what.
It's not like Andy Murray has ever pulled out of doubles/mixed doubles commitments to focus on singles matches. Except that's exactly what he, and many, many others have done. I find it utterly bizarre that someone with her injury history, and the difficulties she's had in regaining any sort of form, is being criticised for this when she'd made such progress in the tournament singles. Of course she's going to prioritise that, as she should do. It's unfortunate, of course it is. Perhaps he'd have been better off trying to play with Boulter or Dart at that stage. Hindsight is great. But I don't think Raducanu deserves opprobrium for this at all. Particularly not from Andy's mum, who despite her rather thin excuse, really should know better.
TBH I hope Andy was completely understanding (and I'm sure he was). He once carried all of GB's hopes for sustained success on his shoulders. Now that burden rests on Raducanu so he should understand better than anyone her decision.
Knowing Andy (or at least what I think I know about him from his many interviews and public appearances and the views he's shared), I'm pretty sure although disappointed to not get that final chance of a last hurrah, he will not blame Raducanu in the slightest and will be on her side. I feel like he got the right send off in the singles anyway tbh.
Raducanu has turned down the Olympics because she is being careful with her fitness….apparently something to do with change of court surface . I understand that as she has 3 ops in last year. Probably worried every time she gets a twinge. She was flattered into accepting the offer when she would have been better to have turned it down.
