Can't believe Trippier is still going to start but at least he'll be on his natural side.

I have Portuguese friends near Carcassonne, in southern France ...

... they keep messaging asking if I think they'll win <laugh>

What should I say?

Funnily enough I have 2 Portuguese mates and one absolutely idolises Ronaldo and the other can’t stand him. Been having a good to and fro in the group chat about him somehow still being on the pitch :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Surely Saka RWB and Gordon LWB makes sense or is that too brave for Southgate? Going with wing backs means we’re a body light in midfield and we’re already creating f*ck all.

Gordon isn't a wing back and Saka is left footed. I don't think that works at all.

The point of wing backs is that you can play wingers or full backs.. Saka would have Kyle Walker behind him I’m not sure how much defensive work he’d be asked to do, and surely Walker is more than enough cover?

You want the wingbacks offering the width, gordon n saka would both be cutting in field too much which crowds it

Wingback system def suits England at the minute but should be trent at rwb as he will offer a lot more going forward than tripper

This could well be his last ever England game ...

... he's not had that many iirc.

Depends how it’s deployed imo, whenever it’s England it’s always ****e and negative. 5 defenders on the pitch with 2 holding midfielders and not bothering to have a 10.

Left footed “RWBs” worked for City when they went with no natural full backs and an overloaded midfield. They even had Bernardo Silva playing on that side before they reverted to a back four. I’m sure Mahrez occasionally played RWB too both of them are left footers. Then again I’m saying their defensive work will be limited this is England we’re talking about they’ll probably end up with backs to the wall :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Great penalties those. Few smashed right in the top corner as they should be, unstoppable. Baffles me when professional footballers take ****e soft placed penalties at the perfect height for the keeper ie Slovenia!
