Are you against looking in league one for a striker by any chance?
Other than a young prospect who would be one for the future, I’m really not sure who we could target at that level. You know which forwards we already have on our books - I think it’s time to sign someone a bit more proven ready to lead the line from day 1.

bet you’re pleased about Rigg. I know you were pretty confident he’d move on. Great news.

I don’t actually think there is strikers who have a load of goals to their name who’ve done it in the champ are available or they are playing in the PL. Maybe Ricky Jade-Jones in L1 could be a shout. He’s apparently one of the best pressing forwards in the league and still very young with a lot of games behind him.

or I can see us looking abroad, Tobias Lauritsen would be a canny one

You've named 3 different strikers there and each one of them is a totally different type of player.

Langstaff - fox in the box. A goalscorer.

Jones - High speed/pressing, often on the wing. Does everything but score.

Lauritsen - target man who can also hold up the ball. Not as mobile.

Oh I know mate just options that I could think of. Also Jones scored 13 last season and started scoring more when he was put CF.

lauritsen i like because of his height etc but maybe we would be looking more for a CF who can press more than we would him.

it’ll be interesting to see who we bring in and what direction we go down. If we bring Mubama in, he seems to be a decent size and also looks quite powerful and Pacey so maybe we get someone similar but more experienced or someone who’s completely different in style like Lauritsen

I see Ronnie Edwards is off to Southampton. I can see Peterborough losing a few of their better players this summer…

Rigg said: “I am absolutely buzzing, to be honest. It is a proud moment for myself and my family to be signing my first professional contract at a Club like Sunderland. I have been dying to sign it for almost a year now. I want to develop as a player and improve as a person – and I believe this is the best place for me to do that. All the staff have been unbelievable with me throughout my journey at the Academy of Light, but there are still so many improvements I can make. The hard work starts now, but I am looking forward to making many more memories representing this Club.”
My nephew knew of this for about a week or so but was sworn to secrecy from Riggs dad, little **** did not even tell me lol. I think this is a massive statement from the club and TBH what I was hearing before hand I was reasonably sure he would sign but there is always that niggling doubt.
I have had a few conversations on here with different people including one poster who was adamant that Rigg was going to Liverpool as his dad had been telling everybody since Christmas which was a little bit cheeky as his dad has never mentioned it at all and I checked.
Funny thing how some people will ignore good information for a wild rumour whilst berating people giving good honest info even if it falls a little bit short of expectations (which luckily on this occasion it did not).

We wont be able to sign a proven championship goal scorer as they cost too much money

So we will ideal be looking to find a gem from the below categories:
1- academy prospect from a PL club who hasnt got much 1st team experience (west ham lad) and who is ready to kick on
2 - an exciting prospect from uk or abroad who has 1st team experience but has scored very little in senior football to date (gyokeres n piroe were in this camp before making moves to coventry n swansea)
3 - proven goal scorer in another league but hasnt proved it at championship level (this is where your longstaff n shanklands fit in)

I know folk want hardie from plymouth but again not a proven goal scorer at this level

Id like a pot 2 striker as feel these can hit the ground running as they understand senior football n can have the biggest upside- stewart was probably in this camp when he joined

Would love Hardie mind. Was a major threat here that day with his movement.

There is arguably a fourth bucket which is a loan signing or a more proven striker from the Premier League - the likes of Moore, Delap, Canon etc

I’d really like us to use the loan market for a forward. I think it’s the best way to get in the best quality. That alongside a forward from pot 1 or 2 as you have described would be the best mix for me. Adding quality and someone we can develop but without putting too inch reliance on them.

Good shout, suppose those could be classed in pot 1 or 2

The higher upside ones are your pot 1 n 2s but they just have to be able to play immediately and not be a long term prospect like hemir or mayenda is

Would like to see us go for Cannon, was barely given a chance at Leicester last season and will likely get even less time this season. Surely they'd be open to letting him go either loan or permanent.

We need to move into the next bracket of quality. Not the 700k-1m types. We have signed too many of thesez especially in forward positions.

The squad is bloated with youth potential. Some didn't do well last year whilst on loan or on our bench / under 21s. Rather we limited the signings this year, but as I said, move up to the next bracket. Guaranteed starters for us who are ready now.
