By selling Greaves this year and in effect Jaden next it helps spread the benefits over the respective years. Which not only helps in the respective years but for the 3 year window assuming we stay in the league that long
Of course it spreads it because one sale happens a year later. That doesn't help us now. It doesn't help for the 3 year window unless we choose to let it. We could spend it all the headroom next summer just as easily.
Like I just posted from the UEFA document, I don't think the loan with obligation does make the FFP a year later.
With the size of the rebuild we are facing I think we need both fees this year. Anything less would make putting together a squad capable for challenging for the top very difficult - even more that it will be in any case. IMHO.
Interesting, hadn't seen that before, perhaps brought in to counteract the Italian clubs who used to love doing it. I suppose my question would be then what's the point of Barcelona doing it? If they're obligated to buy him next summer then why not just buy him now with a clause inserted that they pay us an extra 5m if he makes x appearances? There's a reason they're structuring it the way they are. If we get to include the benefit for FFP this year then all power to it.
Greaves being an academy player can be booked as profit for this year. This is the whole amount Jaden as a signed player would be booked by what we receive over 4 years, remembering we are probably paying £1.25m over the course of his 4 year deal (that's if it is 4 years)
We amortise Jaden's cost over 4 years, we book his sale in one hit less any outstanding unamortised portion of his contract. So if we bought him for 5m on a 4 year deal he has a 3.75m book value remaining. If we sell him for 20m we book a 16.25m profit in this year's accounts.
Not the full picture, it’s also relevant for the next 3 years. Although it definitely makes sense to make any signings against that headroom this summer on a 3 year contract so everything drops in line and you’re not having to find space in the budget at a later date.
Oh I 100% agree with this. I’m just trying to outline a rather small positive of agreeing a deal like this
I expect the queue of people waiting to get their share of that will be longer than the queue for the bar at half time in the concourse.
Worth remembering when analysing these FFP rules that UEFA, the PL and EFL each have separate rulesets. So the info posted with details of how a loan with obligation to buy works in UEFA's rules doesn't necessarily reflect how it works on the EFL's rules.
Depends on obligation type, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are usually using a trick like must play at least 1 appearances. Which makes it optional, and counted for next fiscal year.
