I have a feeling we might get a signing in for kit launch - no info or anything like that but i reckon we might have a signing in this week

Hoping its alan browne, big fan and is the type of player we are crying out for

Would be ok with a oli norwood or alex mowatt as well but feel browne is a better fit alongside Neil
Both would be nice, Norwood could slot into a 6 behind Neil and Browne

Fair enough we’ve been back and forward far too many times on this to hijack another thread so I won’t go on, but what I will say is how does his poor defensive work relate to the stats he’s being monitored against on wyscout?

Ballwatching against Ipswich at home when Hirst peeled off him. Wrestling his man for the corner when Cardiff scored late. Stood rooted to the spot when Jackson scored at Portman road. Running into no man’s to chase a long ball he had no chance of winning and leaving cundle(I think) totally unmarked after being stood right next to him a few seconds beforehand. One of those goals will down as a lost aerial duel but the others won’t have a “bad mark” against him even though he’s cost us a goal? They’re just off the top of my head I’m sure I’d find more if I could be bothered.
Its all taken into considering, errors leading to goals will mark a defender down on it. Theyll look at various stats to score a CB, passing success is one (but most CBs have a pretty high pass rate as most play safe), %defensive duels won (this will be tackles won etc), % Aerial duels won, interceptions per game, no of ball recoveries. his aerial duels won were slightly lower than other CBs but he scored really well in defensive duels won, which is the 1st thing i look for when scouting

O9 will never be everyones cup of tea at CB but he had a good season last yr. Every CB at this level will make multi mistakes over the season leading to goals - thats why they qre playing at this level

The biggest thing he needs to improve on to take his game to the next level is his body shape - its still not natural for him and sometimes he gets caught too square. It isnt bad by any stretch but its the main thing he needs to work on to cut out some of the mistakes you mentioned

I like him in the squad and i dont panic whne he starts but we also need to look to improve all our positions and CB is one

Wonder how many owners tell their coaches to ensure that their teams don't get relegated and then purely focus on increasing player stats to drive big fees. 100% passing accuracy but utterly pointless passes. Running for the sake of it. Loads of one twos to increase pases ets

20+ million with a sell on clause and he should be sold. I like him and think he’ll have a great career but for us right now, it would make sense imo. I think we need a big sale, just not many at the same time. Could improve a lot with that if we’re smart.

Jobe will have a cracking career in my opinion but if we get offered 20 million with a sell on clause we would be stupid not to accept it

With that money we would have a cracking opportunity to improve the squad immediately
With that said. It's important for us not to over indulge with our signings. We need quality over quantity, without a doubt. If we change the squad too much we'll get off to a rough start I predict.

Yet he is good at defending, i never mentioned his passing stats, and the stats back that up. He wins a hell of a lot of his defensive duels, ranks in the top 10 for CBs on wyscout and wins more duels, regains possession more times than a defender like jake cooper who some are desperate for us to sign.

He gets caught out occasionally when he gets over aggresive, not consistently - if he was as bad as you keep saying then he would have had more bad games than good but he didnt. He had a few poor performances, but so do all championship players, but he was good overall for the season

You are making out that he can pass a ball and thats it, thats doing him a massive disservice

I was totally against o9 as a CB at the start of last season by the way but he impressed more times than not last season - and got better as the season went on

Not going to go back n forward anymore as its taken over the transfer thread as you clearly dont rate him so no matter what me or anyone else says will change your mind

O9 is a cracking player for us but if theres an opportunity for us to improve then we should 100% do it
Really good words mate, I swear that sometimes a player gets an unfounded reputation by people just repeating things that aren’t true:

Appreciate that

Its all about opinions though, i dont mind folk sharing what they think of players tbh, whether i agree with them or not

@WorkyTicketFTM makes some good points about O9 tbf and is totally entitled to share what he thinks of him

Football is all about opinions, i used to take offence on here when folk had an opposite opinion to me but its good to see where others come from now

People are speculating Chris Rigg is going to Newcastle but it could just as equally be that his son has signed his first professional contract with us !

I think Monday will be the start of something special, I'm really looking forward to this season, I think there will be a significant push to improve the squad, along with the off field improvements underway or announced.

I enjoyed the season before last immensely, our newly promoted team played with freedom and seemingly without pressure, allowing the players to express themselves and develop.

Last season developed a different feel with TM adopting a more defensive, cautious approach. Possibly feeling pressure to succeed, but not feeling he was provided with the tools. For me that stifled the talent somewhat and the free flowing, care free football from the previous year ebbed away. We all know what came next so no point mentioning it here.

I do feel that KLD will push us back on track, the pressure will be on to achieve more but I believe that pressure will be eased with a few quality signings and hopefully with the return of a couple of our injured.

I personally hope Clarke stays for this season and Rigg signs on the dotted line. I know people keep saying we have to sell to improve, I’m not so sure that’s the way KLD sees it, but time will tell. If we can get a couple of quality loans that would help, and give our young players time to develop to step up in the future, whether by game time or probably good loan placements.

The consensus on here seems to be that we need at least one powerful presence up front, possibly two, and an experienced CDM. I would go along with that but I would hope we can keep the current core of key players intact.

Roll on Regis!

Great post mate.

Bringing in a foreign manager and entourage is expensive ...

... doing that, without backing them, just wouldn't happen.
