For what it's worth, I don't believe for one second that the club's structure is putting off potential head coaches. It's such a common way of doing things now that anyone who might be interested in the job will be familiar with it.

It's possible that there are aspects of the implementation of the structure that are putting people off, but that's a different thing.

Challinor wouldn't get the respect of our younger players like.

He's not done enough in football to warrant it yet.

Although I guess on the other hand, he might ground them a little bit and get them more focussed on their football than their image. Not that I think we've got a squad full of prima donna's though.

Also Lampard's first stint with Chelsea he finished 4th with a young squad and got to the fa cup final. Was also nominated to be manager of the season. Don't think Challinor is remotely close to being better

Forward thinking is appointing someone who fits regardless of where they come from and what they have achieved. Rob Edwards did pretty well jumping from League 2 to the championship. McKenna had zero head coach experience, he's done pretty well. Maresca was dreadful at Parma, he's done well. Martin had nothing but mid table league finishes with MK Dons and Swansea, Southampton still seen the fit and appointed him.

We need to stop getting bogged down looking at win percentages and league position finishes. Look at how they as a coach would fit the club and the squad. Mowbrays 6th with us was his highest league finish since 2008. Bayern just appointed someone who just got relegated ffs:emoticon-0140-rofl:

Where had McKenna managed before Ipswich? Where had Rob Edwards managed before Watford? Absolutely irrelevant.

Where has Maric managed? He seems a popular choice within the fanbase yet he hasn't taken a single first team game.

Brighton about to appoint a Bundesliga 2 manager who is 31.

McKenna and Edwards both being 8-10 years younger. Challinor has managed a **** ton of games and not gone higher

All young up and coming coaches.

Challinor is nearly 50...you've got to wonder why he's not made the step up yet.

All the managers you've listed except Rob Edwards have previously been at top jobs or involved in coaching at top clubs, and even he was at Watford before Luton. Challinor has done a job at Hartlepool and Stockport, he hasn't even proved himself in League One yet. We should be looking at win percentage/league positions along with what fits the club, hence the link with Still and Jansen who tick both of them boxes

Young, modern tactics and is very well thought of by Bayern Munich which is why they want to keep him so bad. There's levels

There were a few meltdowns on here yesterday, I seem to remember it occurring after the Rosenior news was coming out and some people really went in on Speakman, wonder if calmer heads are prevailing today or doubling down is the order of the day?

I'd argue he's done more than Lampard. Took Colwyn Bay from Step 3 to Step 2. Took Fylde from Step 3 to Step 1 and then into the Nat League playoffs. Don't underestimate how difficult it is to get out of those leagues. That's far more than Lampard's ever done and that's not considering the job he did at Hartlepool and at Stockport.

It may be that it's the unwillingness to flex it a little,to adapt to a coach feeling he needs something slightly different. Also, and I know there's been endless debate on it,but I do wonder whether there's a steadfast refusal to remove the apparent Dodds and Proctor safety net.

I think finishing 4th in the premier league, getting to an FA Cup final and being nominated for manager of the season in the premier league are way higher achievement wise

Your Xabi Alonso example is the best demonstration of your point in my opinion.
