Not much. I didn’t want to bother him. He was having a night out with his friends and I said you must get sick of people coming up and asking about what’s happening. Was dying to ask him about the head coach situation but decided to leave it. He was happy enough to get a picture with the wife tho!! Was a nice lad

A hell of a lot of work is done by the coaching team in advance of pre season. Different coaches tackle pre season in different ways. Arguably the most important period of a season for a coach. He cant just rock up a week before and roll out some play book pre season. Planning will almost certainly be underway now.

WS obviously does not want to be here, we have offered a very good deal (as much as we have heard, anyway) yet he would rather wait until another club finds out about coverage.

afraid i am now racing towards the 'forget him' club and hope the club get their next choice in asap, none of this is healthy for the club, the supporters or the players (of both clubs) and whichever club gets him, if it is indeed true that both have been 'fighting' for him, then he might be making a rod for his own back if they do not hit the ground running and spend the next season at or very near the top his stock could plummet.

WS and Maric were the ones i had hopes for, i just hope we have not left things too late to move on...and i am usually quite calm during these summer debates.

    This is my thinking too.

I would be astonished if Heckingbottom got the gig. The reaction against his appointment would be off the scale, when we know he was available when Beale walked the plank.

We don’t know for sure that he’s waiting on a tv deal in France. That looks like it was just upthere speculating that it would take that for Lens to afford him.

too many people making definitive statements based off minor ITK remarks

Be patient here folks. I am at my own tipping point in terms of how much patience I have with the club over this appointment. My own little opinions dont amount to much, but maybe getting them off my chest will make me feel better :emoticon-0100-smile

It should not have taken this long after the close of the season to appoint someone. All of the feasible reasons for delay, european season ends, contract ends, are all gone. This is now about taking too long to take decisive action. I dont really care anymore whether KLD is throwing the kitchen sink at Still. If it was the right fit on both sides it would have been done by now. I tend to believe the ITKs on here and that he was offered the gig some time ago. We should have been onto choice 2 or 3 by now. If we have and they arent coming then it shows what a waste of time since Beale was shown the door.

Maybe we are trying to punch above our weight. A distinct worry of mine. We finished low mid-table, having sacked a head coach that to the majority of the footballing world had us overachieving. We have a squad I think has problems and folk know it. It looks a big job from today to create a promotiom challenging team in my opinion. Maybe we need to be realistic about our level of appeal.

The lack of head coach, and the leadership that post brings and indicates I suspect is having a direct negative impact on the club now. If you were a free agent would you consider us without being able to talk to your new coach? If you were one of our players who was being approached elsewhere would you close that conversation down? If you are Chris Rigg do you sign without knowing who your boss is? As I mentioned earlier pre season takes loads of planning and if our new team arent in asap I think there is a risk of a sub standard pre season.

I have no doubt folk are working hard. I do doubt they are working effectively though. I can imagine very few reasons, other than personal reasons, for a delay of this sort.

As you can tell I am worried and frustrated. And no, I havent been on the malt! I think the best the club could do now, personally, is go for someone who wants desperately to be here, who will give everything they have for us, and who dare I say knows our squad and how we have played to an extent. Somebody who can walk in with a solid degree of knowledge relevant on day one. If we arent prepared to poach a Robins or a Rohl, then give us Rosenior or somebody of that calibre. Lets get it done and get behind the new man and his team and start focussing on how we transition from a side in free fall to one looking up. We, better than most, understand how form can roll from one season to another. We are not above continuing dire form come August...

    Haway the lads.

So Mohamed is now contradicting himself from what he'd said earlier ...

... whereas Magnus has stuck to his guns and it looks like KLD is as well.

Will Still’s future still remains to be solved, with the manager yet to arrive at RC Lens, Sunderland still in the picture, and the man himself thought to be back-peddling in a similar way to the Black Cats. That’s according to Allez Lens and journalist Mohamed Toubache-Ter, who cover the ongoing Still saga today and Sunderland’s continued role in it.

Allez Les explain that the ‘almost arrival’ of Still at the club may be causing a lot of talk at the club but the reality is that he is not particularly close to finalising his deal.

Indeed, this is something that Lens president Joseph Oughourlian has recently commented on, playing down the rumours and refusing to confirm the arrival.

That’s led to some confusion as the coach had clearly taken a ‘step back’ regarding the approaches from Sunderland, after being close to signing for them.

The suggestion is that there could have been yet another change of heart for Still, who may have decided that the low-cost squad and budgetary restrictions at Lens are too much of a challenge for him, despite repeated insistence he had dreamed of coaching the French side.

There seems to be some confusion, and the belief that Still may be having second thoughts about the move despite walking backwards from Sunderland to potentially take it up.

Toubache-Ter insists that the final details are being worked on and finalised, with the last details being discussed.

He, though, offers no timeline, with confusion reigning for the time being, as seems to often be the case with Still and his managerial future.

Just want the best man for the job. Once they’re appointed they need to be committed completely but until then they are free to choose other clubs and come to an informed decision. Whilst there needs to be an alternative being worked on it no good acting like jilted lovers and issuing ultimatums if things are continuing to progress.

That's a good post and I tend to agree with most of it. Things are taking far to long to sort and like you my big fear is the problems this causes with the players we have and recruitment. Whatever the reasons are and I don't know what they are it's now time for decisive action with either Still or whoever is next in line. This process has now dragged on for far to long and needs resolving. Keep the faith lads and lasses.
