All conjecture - when The Athletic start quoting random tweets and use "should" and "may" it's just them covering all bases.

Ultimately we will end up with a Head Coach soon. As long as the club had done due diligence (and not pinched pennies) then I'm confident that person will be the right person, assuming lessons have been learned.
Agree mate, I’ve got faith, some will call it blind faith no doubt, that we’ll have a far more successful season this season

…you’d like to think so, considering we finished 16th and only 6 points above the relegation zone <doh>

The Athletic and their journalists don't indulge in tittle tattle mind, they only say something if they have certainty over it. I personally don't think he's saying/confirming anything about our link with Still there though.

Im the same, I think we have a much better squad than the table shows but it all hinges on the head coach appointment.
really without Clarke we would have been relegated and striker thats scored grand total of 3 goals between them all season man

Or not believing everything thats written on the internet
Is that not kind of what the club has left us to do though? The only people talking about Still to us are the ITKs on this board so at some point we kind of have to believe or not believe things that are written on the internet.

As @Disco down under said, the club are failing to control the narrative and unfortunately for the club the current narrative is that the decision makers are failing but they aren't putting anything out there to control that and it looks bad, and optics are huge in football especially for a club and fanbase like ours.

It's like the Speakman situation, so many people said he was leaving and I know the club themselves can't report on something that isn't happening but surely a journalist could've been used to say that he's staying or leaving instead of just saying nothing and allowing rumours and narratives to develop.

The wider fanbase is on edge, yes this board is still looking at the positives and it's why I like it here but we are a tiny percentage of an extremely large fanbase that is kind of in the dark, which is why people are believing things they read on the internet as that is all they have to go off.

But we did have Clarke? That's like saying if City didn't have Haaland they wouldn't have won the league. If we sell Clarke, just like if City sell Haaland, they will be replaced. You can't just remove a players contribution from a squad and say without them it would be worse because its that way for every team in the world.

The club? Nothing. But use journalists, even if a Phil Smith for example came out today and said 'interviews are ongoing this week' or something like that it would settle a lot of people.
But you know football isnt as simple as that. Say they did that and still was the main man and they then took ages to negotiate with him for various reasons, the fans would be kicking off more saying the interviews happened ages a go and nothings been announced

I think you're both making good points here. To some extent its a bit Catch 22. Releasing information can bring criticism if something happens that could be interpreted as contradicting that information. But, as we're seeing, the lack of information is creating speculation and people are making up scenarios. On top of some of the things that have happened over the course of the season, it is beginning to look the club should be trying relieve some of the pressure on themselves.
