No. He can't turn down the opportunity and we can't turn down the money. I can't emphasise enough, we NEED to sell this summer otherwise we haven't got a chance in paying the loan fees/wages that we have been. I know ticket sales are going up and I know commercial income is going up (including some decent sponsors coming) but we really did push for it this year and we can't do that again unless we sell 1 or 2 players for good money.
Think that's how it works for most non-parachute teams trying to get promoted to be fair. We knew we had a sellable asset in greaves (and philo in Jan probably) and thought we go for it and get promoted or we'll sell them which is what they'd push for anyway. There's always gong to be players in playoff chasing teams who will be playing Prem football either with their teams or with one already there, it's up to the teams to make sure it's with them! Think Alex Scott @ brizzle etc.
One thing I really hope doesn't happen in the close season... SENTIMENT... I dont want any of this he's a nice lad and if someone hadn't stolen his ice lolly after school bollocks... add also there's a player in there somewhere ..
Isnt that pretty obvious. Championship club makes a push for promotion it doesn’t happen has to sell Greaves & Philogene. You are very dramatic in the way you word things which is not rocket science anyways.
As much as it hurts, selling Greaves now is probably going to be the best deal. He's proven he's one of the best defenders in the Championship - where does he go next? If we hung on for an extra year - what if he gets crocked or loses form? He's also another year older. Now is the time to cash in and use the money to benefit other areas of the squad too. Jaden is a different matter - his loss of form towards the end of the season will have affected his price - I wonder if he's worth keeping hold of to see how he goes til January. (Although I'd be trying to find his replacement this summer)
I wouldn’t read too much into what an anonymous poster on here says. Read through the many posts he/she and states the bloody obvious and reads the same rumour threads I do.
It's always foolish to go too far one way or the other. He's at times (including today) shown an obvious lack of quality on the ball compared to the rest of our team. He's also scored crucial goals, perhaps unrelated to his overall performances. Maybe he's got into positions that others wouldn't have, or maybe he was lucky to be the striker on the pitch at the time that those chances presented themselves. It's hard for any of us to say for sure which it is. The people saying he was the next best thing a week ago were definitely going too far. Suggesting he was totally useless earlier on was also going too far, although I'm not sure many people really ever were suggesting that, as much as it gets quoted. We might go for him again, if he's available on a reasonable deal. I wouldn't be surprised if Rosenior prefers to look elsewhere though.
The summer window hurt us. We went into the last week wanting 2 wingers and a forward, we got none. Philogene and Delap got injured and we fell off as we had no replacements. It's all well and good going for it in Jan but as those additions largely came late, the season is pretty much done by the time you get them bedded in.
