The job of the recruitment team is to not discriminate against players playing at lower levels. You've gotta realise how poorly some of our lads played in League One. Let's be honest, Batth, O'Nien, Cirkin, Hume, Gooch, Clarke, Neil and Roberts all raised their games with promotion. Look at Ipswich, I don't think many would expect the likes of Chaplin, Morsy or Burns to be flying like the way they have been. Similarly, in regards to under/overestimating your own players, I read Stockport's forum recently to gauge their feelings and a lot of them didn't think some of their lads could step up to League One. I was looking at their striker as a possible target for us, see how they rate him. Some say he'll struggle next year and others say he has a high ceiling. Proof is in the pudding. So many times a player hasn't turned up for many reasons. I was saying last summer if Roberts could add goals to his game this season then we are looking at another valuable and wanted player, here we are with him scoring no goals and having a stinker of a season. On the opposite side is Niall Huggins coming back and for me, showing he's our best fullback when fit, which says a lot given our talent there.
Huggins scored one of the best goals I’ve seen for a while for us https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkxv3Ztjmj-Nmkb8d-upTgCdxtffkjuXt34?si=WWlymUEiklu3ZjWK
I see Chris from WMS retweeting someone in an attempt to mock their view that 30kpw for Kieffer Moore wasn’t worth it. We needed a lot more than Moore to be anywhere near the playoffs. Would have been a complete waste and left us in the same division next season.
Huggins was class this year. I like Hume but Huggins was a way better. Gutted for him and us because he was coming to life.
No doubt he would have made us better than what we had to chose from, but we were already off the pace and inconsistent. Plus whether we paid the 30k or not he’d have gone for the 30k that might lead to premier league wages not the play off version.
Agreed. He’s a cracking player tbh and being comfortable on both sides at full back is a huge plus. Gutted for the lad.
Shame I liked naz best of our limited options upfront, hopefully get our money back and reinvest it wisely
Same shame as I wanted him to do well. not sure if people remember but some said he was kind of handed a language app and they felt the club might not have done all they could to help settle Russyn. Without knowing the full details though it’s a two way thing though and he’s big enough and gets paid enough to sort his own classes if he 100 percent committed to settling. Wish him all the best.
Just cannot see it personally, not all that fussed either way. The Dutch press don't seem to have rated him much at all but he is in an absolutely stinking Ajax side.
I can't see it either, to be honest. But he's the only former player I can think of that would either be worth bringing back or would be interested in coming back. Mind, there's probably loads that I'm forgetting.
