If we’re struggling to get top 6 with our current players do you really think the answer is players like Simons, Woods, Longman, Smith, Jarvis, and Mills?
Yeah, we have. A lot of the team that got us up through the playoffs in 07/08 weren’t exactly world beaters. They were grafters. We certainly didn’t have an AFCON winner (who won it while at City anyway), two Turkish internationals, two Irish internationals, three England U21s, a Portugal U21 and a Dutch U21. A lot of that team that got us promoted were signed from the leagues beneath us either that season or came up with us through the leagues.
Its an absolutely pointless discussion as it was 16 years ago Alot different Plus they actually got promoted Theres no chance if we have those players on loan in our starting team we will get promoted out of the championship
If Ryan Woods ever plays for City again I’ll cut up my membership card. Longman is the same player for Millwall as he was for us i.e. a very limited player. Simons has been injured and idk how well he was getting on for Fleetwood but I’ll be surprised if he’s involved much next season for us. Vaughan has been crap for Bristol Rovers. What this squad doesn’t need is anymore short weaklings who get bullied off the ball.
Right, so we have been promoted with worse players then. It’s also not pointless, because Luton did something similar last season.
Dont talk ****e Simons Woods Jarvis Smith And el Have about 40 games between them Its not comparable in the slightest
All talk of signings in the summer is moot if Rosenior is still manager. He’s had a glut of talent at his disposal and he’s ****ed it. He’ll just do more of the same next season. From what I’ve heard, quite a few of the players aren’t too happy either. We’ve got a top 6 squad and an inexperienced League 1 manager. Get rid. I do not trust Rosenior to have another full summer to do a squad rebuild and go for another season.
Disagree - none of Smith, Woods, Longman, Jarvis, Simons or Mills would have gotten into the 07/08 team
They’re not going to be the mainstay of our squad, just like Nathan Doyle wasn’t a mainstay in our promotion season, it doesn’t mean you can’t achieve stuff with a less talented squad. But they can act as cover in a pinch. Woods will be gone anyway (along with Doc), Simons is obviously going to have to prove himself to give us a reason to keep him and Smith I think will step up. Dunno about Jarvis, maybe if he keeps ****ting all over the Irish league he might get brought into the fold as well, but neither him or Smith will be first choice unless they suddenly have an upturn in development and ability. I think Smith will. Jarvis has it harder.
Preston never spend big and are notoriously frugal. Think their record signing is Osmajić for £2 million. They’ve also never been in the Prem so no parachute payments, which is the go-to excuse for why we should be grateful for the football slop Rosenior serves up for us according to some on here.
