Wow, sounds fantastic. I can't wait to start properly doing it, don't have the time at the minute what with other work to be doing. Always have ideas for things when I'm on travelling or whatever, recently my girlfriend bought me a tiny notebook I can pocket and take with me to jot things down, as I usually forget things quite easily
I really like short stories too, into modernist short fiction at the minute like Kafka or Fitzgerald, then Poe's collection of short stories are really good. Also been reading a book that has loads of horror short stories written by people like Stevenson and Roald Dahl, which is pretty cool. Also like the idea of travel writing, like Bryson. Last year I wrote just a short 2000 word piece on trains, etc. stream of consciousness and the like.. about hating train travel I'm like you, short attention span. Short stories are the way to go.

Student studying Advertising & Marketing. Also work as a Non Destructive Testing Inspector out of term.
The missus is a student English teacher and has just finished her final 12wk placement (qualifies in May/June after she completes he honours) and said the best thing about teaching was being able to teach "the landlady" by Dahl. She totally loves it!!!
A friend of mine studied American Literature and loved it, and I wouldn't consider it a worthless degree at all. Though on that topic I do enjoy the odd rant about the state of the British education system. Some of the people I was at university with were really dim, arguably 'special needs' sort of dim, yet these people ended up with a degree which will help them get high paying, supposedly intellectual jobs. It's certainly one of those terrifying moments of realisation that humans are actually just these people; these are the people who are 'qualified' to be in charge of making society work
.Do what you want with your life really, you have one shot at existing so make the most of it: study what you want to study and live life as the person you want to be.
That was just a generalised rant by the way, it started sounding like motivational life coaching towards the end

. All true though, I work with supposed Electrical Engineers and how they got a degree I will never know. Most of them can't spell plug,let alone wire one,let alone give engineering advice on any aspect of construction/process etc etc. Yet I like to think I am above average intelligence and I am basically the office boy but know a lot more than them!!!That was a life changing and emotional read Skalpel

Far too many morons lacking common sense have acquired knowledge and gone onto important positions in society while some of the most wise and intelligent people I know prioritise their free time to studying or pursuing what they love and get their money from whatever comes.

Prime example was just last week, a group from our office went on a safety passport course (i.e. a common sense course), the labourer (no offence to Davie but he's not the sharpest tool in the box) got 100% and the electrical engineer failed (the pass mark was 40%, speaks volumes) and has to resit before he is allowed to touch anything on site!!!

My missus used to do risk anaylsis, now works as a financial controller at Lloyds of London.
I was in the forces for quite a few years now work as a Security Consultant. I go round to companies and tell them where they are at risk from criminals/terrorists etc and scare the bejeesus out of them, they then pay us a huge fee to improve their security systems (CCTV/access control) & guarding. My day normally consists of scribbling some notes & getting the PA to type up the report while I doss on here. Have consulted at some top companies, BT, Sky, ITN, Saatchi & Saatchi & London Stock Exchange to name a few.
Studied environmental management at Northumbria uni but it was a complete waste of time. Now working for the co-op getting ****ted on every day by customers and management. Hoping to go back to uni and study something that i am actually interested in such as modern history.
