When someone says to me, “are you a JAWDEE?”. I simply say no whilst looking at their puzzled expressions.

To be honest Sandy, I had never heard of the term until I moved up to Northumberland in the 1980's.I remember my dad referring to Sunderland people as Makems and takems in the 1950s.
I suppose “sayings”, nicknames, etc sometimes fall out of use. Some to be resurrected later. To be honest Sandy, I had never heard of the term until I moved up to Northumberland in the 1980's.
"no mate, I'm from Sunderland so I'm a Mackem" is my response when someone not from the North East assumes I'm a Geordie because of my accent.
Way too polite that, I hope there's a **** off in there somewhere
Showing my age worked in Glasgow 80s. All I got was "canny bag of tudor"I was at Uni in Birmingham in the early 90s and a common response to my accent was ‘Oh, Byker Grove!’ Bloody annoying.
I still get thatShowing my age worked in Glasgow 80s. All I got was "canny bag of tudor"

I grew up in Hetton and when I went to uni in the 80s I'd never heard the term Mackem either. In the Fullwell the fans sang the Sunderland version of the Blaydon races, Geordies here geordies there etc etc. Everyone I met down South would say I had a geordie accent. I agree the term Mackem wasn't commonly used until the 90's.
Anyway the match day thread is Up - Enjoy![]()
Because it's not often the club get fed up of a manager before the fans. There was some discontent but not the usual. Mowbray was still well liked by many. Why does Michael Beale seemingly need to work even harder than any other manager before a ball is kicked in anger?
I think fans need to start understanding what speakman and Kld are trying to do. It's about creating an elite sporting environment with top coaching and infrastructure that can be sustainable and get us to where we want to go. Beale is clearly well regarded as a coach and seems a very good fit. Is he the most sexy or most glamorous?.probably not but he's what we need to develop the coaching at club which will in turn develop players. I'm glad we have this approach than a stoke who just move from one in-demand manager to next with no real strategy or plan
Very good point.
Let's be honest he's inheriting a bunch of very talented and determined players who clearly lack things, at times, that can be corrected.
Clarke/Roberts need to sometimes cross quicker or feed balls into the channels.
Patterson needs work on his distribution.
Ba is dynamic but frustratingly erratic.
All things that can be coached ...
... although I'm not sure what can be done about Neil's shooting![]()

That the same Neil who expertly chipped the keeper the other day?![]()
I was just messing pal, it’s definitely a part of his game that needs to get better and I’m sure it will.It was excellent, I was there and always thought he'd score ...
... but I know the difference between a chip and a shot.
His shooting is generally poor, I don't know anyone who'd disagree.

Aye the twinkle in the eye until they get it hahaMe too, which isn't always evident on the internet when you can't see my cheeky little face![]()

Training looks excellent. Really sharp and intensity levels spot on. Loved some of the little details. The little 10 minute game, bollocking someone for overcomplicating something. The training leaderboard is class as well, I know a few coaches who do that and they say players love it. Looked like everything was small sides stuff, which is a futsal trait, and is how I love to coach - everything shrunk down. Good stuff in my opinion. You must log in or register to see media
