That part about Everton not agreeing a penalty is ludicrous, they shouldn’t be allowed to agree on anything. It’s up to the authorities to tell them what the penalty is immediately. It’s another way they can game the system and avoid relegation.

Could this be the start of the premier league imploding?

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the points deduction either reduced or dropped and replaced with a fine. Mainly because this decision for essentially such a small amount could be disastrous for Chelsea and Man City…which they won’t want to impose.

There seems to be a feeling, amongst Everton supporters and others, that avoiding relegation after the 10 point deduction would mean the end of their problems.

Firstly it's not certain they'll stay up, better teams have gone down, and secondly it's far from their biggest problem ...

... the club is a mess and a disgrace, not the romantic underdog fighting against oppression some see it as.

And pointing the finger at Man City and Chelsea doesn't make them innocent.

    Let's hope so.

If you were setting up a brand new shiny 1st Division of English football it wouldn't look anything like this ...

... the whole thing clearly looks, and undoubtedly is, corrupt.

Our clubs are owned by other countries, or dodgy foreign regimes, and clubs openly cheat then weep and moan when it's punished.

    It's absolutely rotten.

That's what they said about the Everton points deduction tbh.

I know what you're saying but the PL are slowly painting themselves into a corner ...

... it's at the point where clubs are ignoring them, Newcastle are actually laughing at them.

"This morning I had another talk with the German Chancellor, Herr Hitler, and here is the paper which bears his name upon it as well as mine."

    Oops, sorry, wrong quote ...

    ... here's the one.

"The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United Football Club."

It would be nice if they took some action against them but there will be a few brown envelopes change hands and nowt will happen imo.

we begin to get the impression that those who are meant to be in control, are not...city and chelsea (i guess there are others as well) need to be hit hard to show the rest of the clubs that breaking the rules will result in punishments that they do not want, if that does not happen then it basically shows that those in charge are either sh1t scared of losing those clubs or there have been a few brown envelopes floating around.

as soon as sky became involved the game went to sh1t.

It's just the way that it's done. It doesn't necessarily mean that the penalty is negotiated downwards (although that may happen with a fine).

It mostly just means that the penalty has been accepted by the club, there won't be any appeal so the penalty can be applied immediately - and here you can see a reason why it could be in Everton's best interest to appeal: Dyche has finally got them playing reasonably well and there is an expectation that next season will be better still so they should be better able to withstand the points deduction without risk of relegation.

Personally I think Everton should take the hit now because Luton, Sheffield Utd and Bournemouth are so off the pace they look odds on for relegation.

I think the opposite, the PL are slowly emerging from the corner they were painted in to and are beginning to assert proper governance for the first time since it was founded.

I don't know if the current bout of action is due to fear of the government's football regulator taking over, or if the breaches of the profit & sustainability rules are now easier to prosecute because the EFL has led the way and established some case law precedents, or that the breaches have become so bad that the PL have had no choice but to act. I just feel that the PL is beginning to clean out the accumulated dung from their own Augean stables.

WRT Everton then I'm sure I saw somewhere that the PL had given the clubs that were relegated due to Everton's unfair competitive advantage the right to sue the PL over this issue.

I just can’t see the Premier League getting into a position where they realistically have to come down as hard on Man City as Everton.

For this reason alone the Everton points deduction will probably be overturned. Will be changed to a transfer ban and a fine, then spun into “this is a final warning, don’t do it again”. They can then apply the same logic to Man City.

We all know that the way Man City scoops up everything actually degrades those trophies, it's as embarrassing as a dads v kids boxing match where the winners punch the air and look down on the losers.

It's embarrassing for the PL because of the way they've allowed City, and other clubs, to openly bend and break the rules. Everton aren't an easy target, because they're not as big as City, they were just rubbish at burying the bodies and hiding the smoking gun.

Man City has left the other clubs standing and are now leading the PL on a merry dance. But the authorities know that the Everton punishment has put the spotlight on them. If they fail to act then all the brown envelope comments, etc, will grow louder.

I've always wanted Man City to win every trophy because it shows how worthless it all is ...

... and how much it angers clubs like Everton that, despite all the spending and cheating, they cant get near them <laugh>

They’ve had some good results lately, they’ll be glad of that. I still think they’ll stay up.
