Delap has the world at his feet, absolute quality. Big, strong, quick with the close control of prime Matty Fryatt. Reminds me of Harry Kane at times. Lets work some magic and get another 5 million pound fee like Jaden.
It always feels wrong and weird to compare him to Kane, considering just how good Kane is, but the way he gets the ball and turns and runs is almost uncanny. At this rate we seriously need to be trying for a permanent move, or at least a second season on loan.
Completely disagree, the quality that makes Kane Kane is his finishing, haven’t seen anything like that from Delap
Unfortunately the chances of us getting a permanent are very slim, their aim next season is a lower prem loan
I'm a big fan of Delap but one thing I think he could improve on or at least I haven't seen in him yet is the ability to create a half a yard and get a shot away in tight spaces.
One of Kane's strengths are penalties, how is Delap at penalties? Would he take one when Tufan isn't playing?
The problem with signing a Man City player is they want ridiculous Millions for there young players ie Cole for 45 million to Chelsea.
Said Delap is reminiscent of Kane from the start (only for others to now latch on). Will now be the first to say Philogene is the new Zaha. I'll leave Morton to someone else, as it would be too greedy of me to bag all 3 .... plus I can't ATM see an appropriate comparison.
I actually think we would have more chance getting Morton. They owe us two anyway... pants down for Robbo and pants down for Stewart...
Strong runner. Unselfish, but right now final touch and decision making let him down, but that will come with time. I can see him knocking on the door of England 1st squad in a few years, six to be precise.
Think that was a bit different, they didn't want to let him go but Chelsea came in with such a big offer they couldn't refuse. Similar I suppose to Philogene coming to us. Probably a fairer comparison is Shea Charles to Southampton for 10m (still a lot, but not wildly out of our budget if we're subsidising it with Oscar's sale or something).
I can't ever remember a City player being as good at receiving it with his back to goal, turning and accelerating away as Delap is. It's a great trick to have up our sleeve for getting us up the pitch and into good positions. He still has room for improvement in his penalty box game, finding the right spaces to score, and LR has mentioned that his pressing game isn't quite right at times but that they're working on it. You can certainly see him being a really top player one day.
I think he uses his body really well. He's always getting in between the defender and the ball. Really impressive.
The ability of players like Delap is what makes it so frustrating that we don't score more, because it must be 3 or 4 times a game he gets away from his man and accelerates away putting us something like 4 on 4 against their defence, you'd think with the amount of times that happens that it'd lead to more goals. Last season we didn't have players who could do that and a lot of teams just shut up shop and we didn't have an answer. This year we're really good at breaking lines through Delap, Philogene and others and you'd think that was the hard part, and finding a final pass and successful shot should happen more often than it does.
His turn of pace is fantastic, and his ball control allows him to really break through defensive lines and breakdown low blocks. He seems to be literally getting better game after game. I'm sure a large part of that is confidence after a poor year last year.
His goal tally is comparable to Kane’s when considered against age. There were many that dismissed Kane’s quality after his loan move to Leicester, aged around 20.
