Very good description, this club is like turning a giant ship around in either direction...sadly when BSA left the fall, doctor death coming in created a huge negative feeing & practically the moment we kicked off the PL season we were headed for L1 & couldn't be stopped as the right characters didnt arrive

Switch that to being back at Roker & heading for div 3, Peter Reid walked through the door & within 7 games started created positivity & momentum we didn't realise at that point was talking us to the PL....that season we weren't the best side on paper...but there was that much belief back in the club/supporters....still my favourite promotion.....yes we slipped back but rose again with those first few years at the SOL being so intimidating we all knew heading there we would win...not just in the second tier... anyone there will not forget Chelsea being blown away

This club has a special power if they can harness the fans behind them...if we fail...we all stand & support like we did at main road, Wembley many times poyet side, heart breaking Charlton on pens....& were ready to go again...not many clubs in the world have that ..some feel the need to smash everything up in failure....i understand the original post wasnt meant as in to hold back...but agree with you here Smug we NEED this momentum & lets enjoy it...my 13 year old is playing football this morning...gets out of bed & his first words aren't morning...his first words are "isn't it a shame there no match today...i hate international weekend"....we dont want to stop that enthusiasm were in for a hell of a ride which began when KLD walked through the door STID

Made me laugh that mate ...

... it's great that we're capturing the imagination of a new generation.

I was pondering the concept of 'reigning in your expectations' and it doesn't work. If you think it through it means you can't get excited until you've confirmed promotion ... which could be with the final whisttle at Wembley.

Then people will immediately start saying we have to be cautious because 'this squad will struggle' or 'we need six/seven new players to stand a chance'.

    Ad infinitum.

When was the last time we all looked forward to a game thinking that we could win it rather than going to a match out of habit? Times like this for us have been few and far between and we should embrace the football being played on the pitch and roar the lads onto victory each and every game

For me it's enjoying the highs and not getting too down when we lose. I always keep in mind where we are heading and it's to a very bright future. We are not slaves to hope, but to a very cunning plan, as Baldrick would say.

The truth is that we're never going to win the PL, those days are gone, so we have to enjoy what we're watching ...

... I'd hope we can win a major cup and that would do for me.

No need to reign me in....im always expecting & used to a kick in the bollocks...maybe hardest one to take was the L1 playoff defeat to Charlton...not so much we lost...more as we didnt turn up & thought we were there after an own goal...i still blame fxcking about with the pizza trophy...as believe we were burnt out but playoffs final & they were all blowing out their arse....this is new beginning....if KLD ever wants to move on I believe the foundations will be there for others to follow...other than Sir Bob leaving behind the SOL & AOL other foundations were all built on sand

KLF its happening if not this season the next or next but its happening<party>

With the amount of work carried out and the player turnover I am sorry but their will be mistakes made it stands to reason , we have to consider how much money did he cost the club which I would suggest would be minimal particularly when you look at the money the club has wasted over the years . My fear is that other clubs will see what is being achieved here and we could see him poached .

I understand that there are some “glass half empty” people who try and temper their enthusiasm and hopes for fear of being ultimately let down or disappointed but why not get carried away with it all? Why not get excited?
Some supporters may be having a really crap time of it at the moment with other things going on in their lives. For some, right now, this positivity and excitement may be the only good thing in their lives at the moment that’s keeping them going. I say embrace that, get caught up in it, let yourself get excited and carried away with all the euphoria and just enjoy the hear and now

    100%.

But if you're letting it 'actually' affect your real life you need to give yourself a serious shake. I won't deny I enjoy my weekend far better when Sunderland win. But, i've never laughed as much as I did on the night after Sunderland were beat in the L1 play off final against Charlton. I was in absolute stitches all night simply cos me dad was in fine fettle.

It's not only a game...but it actually is...sooner you can resolve that conundrum the sooner you can get the absolute most from the highs and just accept the lows for what they are...momentary glitches.

Agreed. The football doesn't ruin my weekend like it used to, but some games (like the play off finals or the 1-5 at Castle Grayskull) stay with me longer

No worries...I dont get what you dont get tbh. You're saying whatever happens on a night after Sunderland have lost an important game is completely written off? I'm saying...it's definitely not. I had a great day. Apologies. How long did it take you to get over it?

It's not that black and white for me, I can do two things at once.

I had a great weekend at Wembley, met up with people before and after then got back to my normal life ...

... at the same time I was very disappointed at the result and our performance.

I don't understand how anyone, passionate about the club, would be any different tbh.

Perhaps it just doesn't mean that much to you which is fair enough
