Speakman needs to step up and deliver for us here. He’s had a lot of praise, but it’s time to be counted

KLD needs to give him a few quid, decent strikers aren’t cheap and pissfarting around on a shoestring budget offering people L1 wages isn’t going to get us much.

Not sure what our wage situation is but a builder will only build on a worse paid site if it meets his personal needs better like travel, healthcare or it may lead to better further ahead. Same job same conditions they’d choose the best fee. Other than playing at the ground with our fans and facilities are we offering better than our competitors? Maybe we are but I’d say a player will chose pay and conditions first.

Happy to be called a bed wetter but I am absolutely ****ting myself and fear a massive sink and a lower table season
Not being revisionist here or anything but just a feeling something wasn't right before the start of the season. Had folk saying we'd go one better than last season but I couldn't see it, no matter what anyone says this league will be far far harder than last season. You had the Mowbray saga just after the end of last season which wasn't ideal to say the least, then bit of optimism when we brought the four lads in early, since then something has just felt "off". What with all the off field stuff aswell, the amount of goals we were conceding preseason was a real worry to me, even more so than up top.
Mowbrays comments and team selections first two games, well subs mainly have been alarming. He was moaning, and rightly so, about lack of experience. Then leaves Batth and Pritchard on the bench! Almost like he's making a point.
Kind of reminiscent of just before Neil ****ed off.

Which is why players will be sold on at right point for both us and them. Our position isn’t to be peak earning, it’s taking them on next step of development. It’s to give them a better career. If they just want the money then they don’t have the right attitude for the club and can go play for Stoke. If they want to be the best they can be then we should be seen as a stepping stone to achieve that.

No way do we want to buy Maguire for £80m as he comes into his peak or for £30m in his decline. We’d take Jonny Evans on a free for a year or an up and coming talent.

People need to remember where we were not that long a go. KLD came into a complete mess of a club. Is everything perfect atm, no. There is still much work to do, but we are on the right path.
True, but he can't dine out on that forever. We were a shambles of a club on and off the pitch. Currently we are still a shambles OFF the pitch and in danger of repeating last season's mistakes on it. Worrying noises coming out about Mowbray and Speakman and there is generally only one winner in that scenario

It’s the one position where we will struggle to fill unless we bend the financial constraints a bit, the big issue is the knock on effect so I can see why they are reluctant to do so.

Bigger transfer fees often result in higher wages, which then leads to other players also asking for higher wages…it can quickly become a domino effect. It must be a nightmare to manage.

I can see us paying a loan fee for a good striker rather than forking out and upsetting the team cohesion.

Having said that, we've also been in the position where we've said 'very good, but it's performance on the pitch that matters'.

Wow. Not so long ago everyone on here was saying what a great time it is to support the lads and recognising how far we've come under KLD. I'm not that fickle that my good will will disappear.
This 100% draw with Mallorca and everybody crowing over season to come, brilliant signings etc. one defeat and the press pushing stories about manager wanting a striker and boom, the most loyal fans in the country are in meltdown. Well not this one, what’ll be will be, I’m confident we’ll get what we need and have another decent season.

I didnt panic when Neil left, I was calm. For some reason, the current situation leaves me really uneasy and feels massively wrong

Meltdown, or showing genuine concern? The signs are that all is not well with Mowbray and Speakman, our threadbare squad isn't papering over the cracks thus far and it feels as though nothing is going to change. The club maybe putting all their eggs in the Stewart basket and writing off the first 10 games of the season

I think thats because a) expectations lower last year and b) we had got off to a good start.

This year expectations higher and poor start (but v early).

I think its natural to fear a slide and lower half (or worse) finish.
