It is a permanent. That’s why the one-year deal is so weird.

 

I thought he was going to get a 2 year deal with an option of further year.

 

Aah, missed that. I had wondered. Yeah, that is really wierd. Wonder who dictated it. Presumably the club.

 

I suspect we will have an option to extend the deal if it is successful but it gives us a break clause if it all turns pete tong.

 

Maybe HT2 will confirm if right as i was under the impression he was offered a 2 year deal and club had option of further year.

 

Sorry I just can’t understand the reasoning behind paying a transfer fee for a player and only giving them a one-year contract. If he does very well and scores a decent amount of goals, he’ll have more suitors in the summer and he might not renew his contract and go for free somewhere else next summer. If he flops, we can’t even recoup some of the money we spent on him. It’s a lose-lose situation financially.

 

This would be far more likely and sensible.

 

I think you twist everything into a lose-lose. The first part is right, but if he doesn't perform then we're not getting a fee for reselling him, and so having him out of contract would be a good thing for us. That's presumably the reason for the contract. It may turn out to be a lose if he does well but no it's not a lose-lose.

 

I'm missing an atricle mentioning fee and 1 year, but playing catchup after work. Was it Baz?

 

Presumably Brighton had no intention of offering him a better deal, and preferred a fee.
Maybe the delay was us trying to get him on a loan instead.

 

1 year doesn't surprise me a huge amount but no option seems odd. That would suggest he didn't want to agree to an option year, but he was desperate to come so why wouldn't he? Odd one.

Surely not. We wouldn’t pay £1.2m for 12 months

 

Eh? He'll be out of contract next summer so where does the 20% sell-on ever come into play.

 

You could get alot of talent for that fee for a year loan, i still think that must be wrong even more so now that would not be good business.

 

Oh do **** off. If Ehab was still running things, people would be tearing their hair out and raging over this transfer. Paying a transfer fee for a 23-year-old and only giving him a one-year contract with no option is just money pissed down the drain. If he scores 15-20 goals and others are interested, he goes next summer for nowt. If he doesn’t do well, he goes next summer for nowt.

 

Prefer him to play between both boxes than tick them

 

Likely a clause if he plays a number of games for an automatic extension
