The point of an outswinging corner is that it allows the attackers to attack the ball while facing the goal, and forces defenders to face their own goal too, which they never want to do. Not saying it's always effective, but that's the appeal of it.

Draws the keeper out. Means if he doesn't get to the ball it should be an easy nod in (in theory)

If Connelly is in the building and Tetteh's gone then we aint playing crosses into the box in the conventional sense of the word, big guy knocks it down. More like hoping for cut backs to Delap, Connelly and Oscar from the likes of Vaughan and Traore, plus tippy-tappy stuff on the edge of the box.

PS...Our corners have been rubbish for a long time.

It's kicking a ball, not under pressure, how hard can it be for a professional footballer?

I wouldn't say its not under pressure.

Anyone can beat the first man with a floaty ball that either gets caught or headed out.

Doing it with whip, pace and a dangerous trajectory which also gives your oncoming players a chance whilst putting it on a sixpence is the tricky bit.

If it was easy everyone would beat the first man.

This. I agree the corners aren't easy to get perfect. Our throw ins are far more concerning. We either lose the ball or they quickly end up back with Ingram most of the time. Funnily enough just like that corner did on Saturday as well.

Agree. And that's what I don't get at all. Time & again we get a throw in well into the oppositions half yet the ball ends up going straightback to the full back then to the CB's or keeper. I get that the logic is ball retention and recycling (yep, I know!) but surely we should work on attacking plays from such positions?

Yep. This is a big one for me too. If we don’t try and make the most of the opportunities while we are in the final third, we will no doubt have less shots on goal, leading to less goals scored. But we’ll win on possession stats, of course! :emoticon-0114-dull:

Which brings me to my worrying thought. We will get more out of the games against the top teams, but at times won’t be turning draws into wins when we should. That will be frustrating if it were to happen and it causes us to not make playoffs.

True. Oddly enough the multiple ball system perhaps doesn't complement us...that well. No time to think what to do. On Saturday Vinegar Joe had few options in the opposition half and had to hold on for ages. Ball was soon shunted back into our own half and promptly ended up at the feet of Ingram.

Agree. I can't see the logic in gaining a foothold deep in the opponent's half only to surrender it and then potentially lose possession anyway in the next move.

Well that's what happens when you try to play forward when everyone's marked up and there's no space in behind.

Ball goes back, the opposition has to come out to press creating space in behind to potentially exploit. If not we at least keep possession so they can't hit us on the counter.

They were excellent in L1 with Honeyman and Elder. Big part of our success that season.
