Brentford have about 5,000 players they keep a special interest in. That's nearly 500 in each position!

    They’ll all be crap !
    We’ve overpaid
    They will be injured
We could have signed them weeks ago and got the tubby lards fit
Some of them shouldn’t have driven here
    Or wore trackies
Or their heads will be sago
They won’t like living on Kingswood - but then who would ( tin hat wanted )
Be late for training because of Asda Kingswood
But Tufan likes it here , likes the lifestyle after being v close to the Smoke
Maybe his current life situation suits a more sedate life , with kiddies ? Not all players need Harvey Nicks and The Ivy

This is something I'd love to understand. How do players end up training with a club before they're confirmed to have moved to that club? If the clubs aren't yet confident enough that the deal is complete to confirm it, why would they be happy for the player to be training with the new club and potentially getting injured? To me it seems equivalent to letting your house buyer move in before the sale has completed. Ridiculous surely?

Edit: In fact, isn't that what happened with Traore last summer? Injured training with us before the deal was confirmed. Seemed to lead to a delay in us completing the deal and we only eventually did it on the last day of the window. Almost as if we were leaving it as long as possible to avoid paying him when we didn't need to or something?

I'd assume Traore may have been to do with waiting to see the prognosis on his injury before ratifying the deal.

And insurance if he got injured we’d be obliged to pay I assume
Seems a stupid thing to do unless he’s signed

I read somewhere, a while ago now, that the whole insurance thing is a bit of a myth as we look at it & assume, every time a player’s injured that the insurance pays out.
No idea how it works, but going by car & house insurance, I’d assume they do everything to get out of paying.

I meant insurance as in permission from Brighton
If he hasn’t signed we’d be liable to pay
    Which is ****ing stupid
    Again unless he’s already signed

It's commonplace at many clubs players training before it's announced so there must be some sort of preliminary agreement on that whilst the paperwork is finalised.

I mean clubs take lads on trial without being signed (and not always free agents) so how's this much different?

I don’t know the specifics but I imagine with Connolly it’s more than just a deal agreed in principle. Can you imagine if we accepted a bid from Roma for Greaves, he goes and has his medical and agrees personal terms in principle but hasn’t officially signed the contract yet, takes part in a training session and ****s his ACL? What happens then? Do Roma pull out as he hasn’t signed a contract yet, leaving us with a depreciated asset?

The tragic case of that forward who signed for Cardiff from that French club who died in a plane crash is the most extreme situation of where things like liability becomes messy.

I'd expect the binding part may have to be agreed and if they're training it's pretty much the formalities of the admin or even medical - either that or there'd need to be a preliminary agreement covering such instances prior to going to train.

But the same risk is there for players coming on trial. What would have happened if Vaughan was seriously injured with us whilst still an Oldham player?
Surely something would be in place?

You could always send an email to [email protected] to enquire about footballer's insurances in these circumstances
Keiran Maguire is very knowledgeable and he has a lovely dog

Probably just say there will be case law covering it and most likely end up in the court of arbitration, as with the Cardiff situation.

It's funny how much people whinge about last season's business yet it's pretty certain to turn a profit. It wasn't perfect and we overspent but we've done so much worse in the recent past

Is it not more likely that the deals done but they still need to organise the photo etc, because of how close we are to the start of the season and his lack of pre-season they felt it was more important to have him train and then deal with the press stuff afterwards?

The insurance side of things is a very good question and started me thinking. The best place to start is ask jeeves or yahoo answers.

Yeah, how can we be pushing the FFP limit on losses and making a profit?

I doubt clubs just leave it to chance like that. Somebody will have insurance but is it for the player or those who take part in training? Will they have to add an extra player to any list (if any) each time they have a new player training with them?
