One of Rosie’s prime responsibilities is to instil confidence and belief in his players, which is precisely what he was doing in that video.

It was quite obviously done in the full knowledge that we wouldn’t actually be starting the season with only the players in that room.

It also had the added benefit of annoying ranty accountants with an over-inflated view of their own opinions.
There are ways to instill confidence and belief in players without lying to them
I'm sure that if I said to you that you were definitely not obsessed with me you wouldnt believe me

Are you saying that it's good our manager talks rubbish after pre season games?
He doesnt have to criticise individuals but let's have some honesty

He hasn't said anything that's rubbish, it's pre season, his attitude is "the results don't matter". We haven't lost any pre season games anyway, so what exactly are people moaning about?

We’ve signed 3 players, nothing suggests anything “desperate” about that. We released our first choice left back. Signed one, lost 2 strikers in summer. Signed one. Lost 2 wingers, signed one.
we still havent signed a goalkeeper or striker (except Delap) which were our main weaknesses
Delap is playing for us to gain more experience and hopefully increase our lack of attackimg threat but not solve it

Im sure at least one player did. Its irrelevant really though because I'm sure every player also knew we would strengthen, just like Rosie said to them we would.

It's July and we're in talks with one. The season doesn't start for a couple of weeks, we've got ages to bring in a keeper and it's good experience for the younger keepers to get game time in pre season anyway.

Delap is a good addition alongside what we have.

If the season started next week and we had another goalkeeper in, I'd be absolutely fine with it given how we fared under Rosie last season. I'd back us to make the top ten no problem.

What have the results got to do with anything when we are discussing Liam being honest?
I dont think anybody has said that the results matter. People have said that the performances do matter even if match fitness is important
Those who say it is ONLY about fitness cant seriously think that the players will play totally different when the competitive season starts?
Saying we should have had 7 or 8 goals wasnt sensible
Saying he'd be happy with the squad even if we didnt make any additions wasnt sensible

Looks like you're questioning his character for doing his job, working with the assets he has.

92 other managers said something similar on the first day back also.

Well, yeah, he was using hyperbole, think that was pretty clear. It is about fitness and yes performances are completely different in pre season because there's nothing on the line, people don't want to get injured and some players don't know if they'll be here or not so obviously during pre season games are about getting up to fitness, getting the eye in with passes, building up understanding and working on technique. It's effectively a training exercise, nothing more. So his comments in the post match yesterday were probably spot on.

We have a good forward line, a very good defence and a decent enough midfield (sans a number 6, which I reckon we can fill). It's just another keeper we really need and we'll get one.

If the choice was between getting a goalkeeper and a striker before the season starts I would go with getting a good striker
I am happy with Ingram as our first choice golkeeper for now. I just hope he doesnt get injured!

See I wouldn't, I'd go for another keeper. I think Matt Ingram is solid, but it's no coincidence our performances picked up when Darlow was in goal. That extra level of confidence in the goalkeeper does wonders for the defence.

it's seems to be that you think the only option is to lie about how good the team is or to lie about how bad the team is
as a sensible person I believe in not lying but not criticising individuals
Liam didnt need to address TLTs error but I dont think describing it as a goalkeeping error would lead to his suicide. TLT and the fans all know it was a goalkeeping error.
Personally I’ve listened to thousands of post match interviews from the best worst and most honest footie managers in the world and they all explain away the result rhe squad , the errors etc in much the same way depending on the out come . Some call out players , some squads some the owners , and don’t last long , but this is pre season when players are vying for places , some don’t know quite where they fit , some are new , some will be young and naive , the foreign ones may not have clue what’s said , especially if the translation is poor or inaccurate and yet it seems that total honesty is required , with so many variables for the team and individuals it’s unlikely you will get it . Young players will follow the managers line , older ones will probably quietly think here we go again ‘ am I in the team ‘
It’s the way it is and with Liam it’s no different . I think a lot of this response from
People is high hopes , the fact we haven’t signed a 20 goal a season striker for 10-15 million or appear to get lucky or seen clinical finishing only in pre season friendlies. They’ve never been reflective of the season to come . he doesn’t have to lie but he doesn’t have to tell your I the truth we want .

Not 91? Who is the other manager? A non-league manager?
We have a transfer window so clubs dont have to work with what they have got

I have a lot of respect for Eddie Howe
He doesnt bullshit
If he doesnt want to say something critical about a player he keeps quiet
He will criticise the team or an area of the team if he thinks it is necessary
He's made improvements to the team slowly to give the new players time to bed down

I agree. I would have gone for Darlow. If you have confidence in a player in such an important position it is better to pay the extra.
We need TWO strikers playing together - Oscar and Connolly hopefully

£5m fee and £30k a week, in year one that’s equivalent of around a third of the club’s total annual income on a keeper, we’re quite clearly not going to pay that ffs.

Let's be more logical about the numbers
Turnover in 2021-2022 was £15m
I would expect turnover in 2023-2024 would be a lot more: Championship rather than League One, TV money (6.5 times more), no Allam involvement, higher attendances
Let's say his contract was for three years
Any transfer fee might be paid over a number of years, say three
The charge to the P&L account for amortisation over three years would be £1.7m per year
When you take wages into account the cost would be about £3m per year on maybe a turnover of £30m or 10% not 33%
I thought Pelkas's wages were close to £2m per year and some other players were high, too; including players whose contributions were questionable.
Every club has an incredible spread of wages among players

He even stated as much explicitly in the video. He essentially said "I will bring in players, but..."

And in any case, the players staying quiet in response means nothing. They stayed quiet to everything, because it was the manager talking at a team meeting. Interrupting wouldn't be advised.

Exactly
It's best to consider whether he would be happy with no additions as he said
It's also worth considering whether the players believed him when he said he'd be happy if he started the season with the present squad
