Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the latest intake of scholars ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Nine players have put pen to paper on a two-year scholarship deal to form part of Adam Asghar’s side for the upcoming Under-18 Premier League season.

Aaron Chung, Ben Kindon, Ben Metcalf, Chris Rigg, Daniel Parker, Jack Whittaker, Jaydon Jones, Matthew Young and Trey Samuel-Ogunsuyi have all signed new contracts.

Academy Manager, Robin Nicholls said: “Although they have a long way to go, we are excited by the potential that the group have displayed both collectively and individually over several seasons now. They have regularly been one of the most exciting Academy teams to watch and several have been recognised through selection for youth international squads. We are delighted to secure them as scholars with the Club and look forward to seeing how they develop over the next few seasons.”

 

Means nowt, unfortunately. Prem clubs can still poach him for next-to-nothing next summer.

The lad has interest now, the fact he has signed a deal shows he has bought into the club and how he can progress here. Compare that to the young keeper going to Chelsea who hardly ever bring through homegrown players and when was last time they had a 1st team keeper through their academy (compared to us having two in the last decade).

 

The vast majority of mock ups done by fans seem to be better than we end up with. I like that blue one.

Celtic and Sunderland miss out on Zan Vipotnik

So do not underestimate just how impressive a piece of business this is for a Bordeaux side who missed out on promotion to France’s top flight last season, and were facing questions about their very existence amid spiralling debts just 12 months ago.

According to L’Equipe and Tuttomercatoweb, Vipotnk will sign a five-year deal at the Matmut Atlantique. Bordeaux will pay around £2.5 million up front; the deal rising to £4.2 million with bonuses.

Vipotnik scored 23 goals in 32 games last season. His arrival will help Bordeaux move on from the talismanic Josh Maja, who’s departure was confirmed on Tuesday. Maja, reportedly on the radar of Celtic’s Old Firm rivals Rangers, opted not to sign a new contract after Bordeaux finished just outside of the promotion spots in Ligue 2.

Not really mate. There are regulations, related to EPP and our cat 1 status that gives us some protection. That said, he can sign pro terms at 17, with us or elsewhere. If elsewhere there is a fee needed, thanks to having a 2 year contract in place. It is similar to anyone with 2 years left on their contract as of today. A fee is needed next summer to get them.
