Which is great news for us and hopefully shows his head is not turned by chasing money but where his football is best served.

If he continues to progress Man Utd will be back for him next summer though and they will be more of an issue than those up the road

Whilst you do have a point, on the flip side of that he could have signed his 2 year scholarship deal with a number of clubs but chose to sign it with us as he and his family see what is happening at Sunderland and are happy with the progression he has made. I think giving the club some credit for the obviously good work they are doing bringing players through from youth teams to first team and showing that they will get their chance is pivotal to not only CR signing his scholarship but for the rest of the young lads who signed along side him. It is also worth noting that these lads are helping a successful youth set up who finished second only to Man city kids in the northern division this season so the future at this moment looks very bright.

As ex players become agents, hopefully there's a growing realisation that agitating for a move every year to make money might not be the best path for a footballer to take. You can be set for life from a single contract these days. When everyone's set for life almost immediately, what is there to aspire to in a career. Do you want to be a legend somewhere or a bit player everywhere.

I applaud the sentiment marra,I really do,but,it's not how this horrible, greedy world works unfortunately. A " set for life single contract" only works until someone else comes along who's getting more, envy kicks in,and the whole thing becomes something else.

Not knocking the club at all, I think what they're doing with the youth setup is brilliant. Completely out of their hands if Rigg decides to leave next summer but it seems like they're doing all they can.

Even if Rigg does go, it sounds like we have a very exciting crop of kids coming through. He looks to be the "jewel in the crown" right now but who knows how they will all develop, a couple of the other lads could easily overtake him

It's the tried and tested trick of writing off new players using one of three reasons ...

He's just a squad player for the future - i.e. Ekwah

The selling club obviously don't rate him - i.e. Batth

He's no experience in this league - i.e. Stewart

    It's tragic tbh.

Don’t want to open up the Dennis Cirkin buy back stuff again as none of us know the terms of that exact agreement … BUT…

Xavi Simons has a buy back with PSG that PSG have triggered. Now it’s up to him to decide.

I’m pretty positive it’s the same for Cirkin - so he would have to want to go back to spurs and can’t be made to. But I know some on here had disagreed.

He's got a lot to prove imo. Still prone to injury and needs to play a lot more game at this level before talk of buying back. I think he is mint btw and his injury troubles may benefit us in that he'd be premier bound by now if he'd played every game and reached his undoubted potential

That’s exactly how it works, you can’t force a player to sign if they don’t want to just because there is an agreed buy back clause.

    That’s essentially what loans are.

On the Rigg front - has he done his GCSEs? Has he finished with school/college/full time education? Will he be training with us full time?
