Hate playing newly promoted sides start of the season
Agreed, but if you have to then I’d rather be playing them at home.

Have there been any comments on or discussion around our preseason fixtures? I’m slightly surprised we’re not giving ourselves any slightly sterner tests with harder games against better opposition.

It doesn't affect us, but . . . .

Pompey are ready to write off almost £200,000 to drive Denver Hume’s departure this summer.

Neil Allen

The Blues are prepared to sanction a cut-price exit for the left-back, who is surplus to requirements at Fratton Park, and The News understands that interest is primarily being driven by League Two clubs at present.

With Hume entering the final 12 months of his contract, Pompey must be realistic about his rapidly diminishing transfer value.

The Blues accept tje fact that they will receive nowhere near the £200,000 paid to Sunderland for his services in January 2022, and as a consequence are prepared to accept a rock bottom fee.

The 26-year-old’s representatives are presently exploring a summer exit, with both parties in agreement that a parting of the ways is necessary.

Pompey can't see a future for him in John Mousinho’s side, whilst Hume is also eager for a switch to secure regular first-team football following a nightmare 18 months.

Encouragingly, it is understood that there have been enquiries this summer, but that has largely come from League Two clubs.

Whether that would appeal to Hume remains to be seen, with his career having been focused around the Championship and League One to date.

There is also the critical issue of League Two clubs being unable to come close to his Fratton Park wages, which is likely to represent a significant drop in earnings.

Yet with the Blues ready to write off the bulk of a transfer fee paid 18 months ago, there must also be willing from the player to take a financial hit to end the nightmare.

Hume’s contract finishes in the summer of 2024, and while Pompey also possess a club option, it is clear that they will never take it up.

Instead they will seek to offload him this summer, preferably as a permanent departure rather than a season-long loan.

Of course, the best option would be for a mutually-agreed departure, with the Blues saving on his wages over the next year but not receiving a penny in transfer fees.

Regardless, Hume is expected to be present for Pompey’s return to pre-season training next Monday (26th).

I thought that he had potential :emoticon-0112-wonde

I thought he had potential as well, but for whatever reason he's come nowhere near fulfilling it.

I had a quick look at his stats, he only played 68 league games for us over 5 seasons (84 in all competitions) and only 20 league games (29 games in all competitions) for Portsmouth in a season and a half, so you can see he's just not played enough games to develop. Whether that's down to fitness and injuries or a poor attitude in training is something only the clubs will know. It's funny that in the 19/20 season that was cut short because of COVID that he played 32 league games, yet each following season he played less and less.

To be honest, he never developed defensively and though he was ok going forward he became a bit predictable without a great deal of end product. Once he was replaced he never really looked like getting back into the team when Cirkin arrived. At 24 now his career is at a crossroads, he's still young enough to improve and be at least a high end league if not championship level player, but if he doesn't, league 2 or conference is the best he can hope for.

Definitely looks the hardest month on paper to me but there’s always teams that fail to live up to expectations and vice versa (surprise packages) so who knows.

Played a real mix by then as well so see what mentality is like v the supposed lesser threats too.

It’s a great league this season size of the clubs. Several bigger than several PL clubs by a distance.

Why do fans get **** on with kick off times?

I’ll still be there like but it’s an absolutely ****e time for a lot of people that.

You almost always know by 24.

Took some bad advice regarding his contract here and ended up running uphill when he needed the opposite.

But he gets injured a lot too. His best bet now is to concentrate on playing for a team now for a couple of years, get sixty games or so in, learn how to defend better, and try and pick up some league one contracts up until he's done. He could set himself up that way.

Mind, any decent agent would have told him that when he was here, balking at his contract offer.

You don't get many chances in football. Some bloody good players don't get any, and this lad might be on his last.
