From what I have seen SB is better than Figgy turned out to be, not a stellar signing, but steady enough signing if true.
Irrelevant. He's a left-footed centre-half and we have two good ones already. If Figueiredo goes we'd ideally need another right-footed one. Plus he's injury-prone as ****. It would be a pointless signing on par with Woods. Another steady Eddie who we didn't need and didn't improve us.
**** knows. I don't know why he wanted Ebiowei. Just because he's a decent manager and our manager doesn't mean his decision-making is infallible.
It could be, I do get the feeling Acun would like to get some money in, so have room to strengthen in other areas.
You need 4 centre-backs IMO, Greaves might yet go, if so, then you would have Jones/Macca/Smith/Sonny. If Greaves stays then maybe Smith will go out on loan again. I guess it's a balance between what he will cost and whether he is a good back up.
I agree, but for clubs like us to keep 3 centre-backs happy when only 2 can play, I think we have to accept the backup is not at the same level as the first-choice pairing.
A signing that only really makes sense if Greaves is going imo. He’d be 3rd choice for the left CB slot otherwise
I did see a picture with Coyle and Sonny recently, think I saw Liam Copper in there too so must all keep in touch.
If we sold Greaves the logical replacement would be Cashin from Derby i.e. sell a young player for millions and replace him with another young player for a fraction of what we sold Greaves for. That's what the well-run clubs like Brighton that Rosenior supposedly wants to emulate do. Selling a young player for millions and replacing him with a journeyman with injury problems on a free transfer is what poorly-run skint clubs like Preston do.
Even the likes of Brighton sign the odd older player though, like Lallana or Welbeck or supposedly Milner this summer. We have a very young squad and centre back is a position where it might make sense to have some experience along the lines of what we tried to do with Figuereido. That said, the whole thing might be bollocks anyway. If we are indeed looking to sign him and he is indeed left footed then it must be as an experienced backup/competition for McLoughlin with Greaves being sold. The Brighton-esque pipeline of saleable assets would then see McLoughlin the next to be sold for big money.
May as well sign Livermore and Clucas on free transfers as well to placate the sentimental wet wipes in our fanbase.
