Transfer Rumours January '23 Transfer Thread

Although this lad is having a poor season apparently….get him in the summer so the one **** season he’ll have has ****ed off

Of course he does. If we see it, the club do too. It's easier said than done bringing someone in of quality though
Quite often the difference between mid table mediocrity and mid table. Every top side has one, we don’t.

You either need one to make up for full back defensive deficiencies or good defensive full backs to make up for your midfield’s defensive deficiencies. It’s the reason why we struggled so much against Sunderland because our midfield can’t win the ball back consistently and our full backs were both ****.

We're a team of misfits. Rosie has a job on his hands over the next window. We have no natural width, one of our two strikers appears to be permanently crocked, the other, when not also injured seems to blow hot and cold. It looks to me like Coyle's carrying an injury and is playing out of necessity, I suspect we wouldn't have conceded 1 of Sunderland's last 2 goals if we had a proper right back playing in that position. Pelkas and Ebiowei needs to return from whence they came.

Will any of the out of contract players be offered new deals?

Out of Contract;
- A. Jones
- Doc
- Elder
- Coyle
- Covil
- Smith

The only one I can see potentially getting a new deal is Jones (would love Doc to stay, but would he want to if he's not getting much game time?)

With the loanees also going back;
- Connolly
- Pelkas
- Ebiowei
- Darlow
- Baxter

And some fringe players;
- Figs (not even making the bench?)
- Woods
- Longman
- C. Jones(?)

Sounds like another busy window to me.
I think Elder, Coyle, A Jones & Covill will get a year extension, unless we get some players in early & currently have some players lined up ready.
The loanees, if all 5 on your list are available, Darlow, Connolly & possibly Malcolm will be signed, unless again, we get some players in early or currently have some players lined up ready.

I think your list of fringe players, if we can get anything for them, they’ll be gone, Doc, unfortunately will be either free or minimal fee for a lucky Rotherham or L1 team.
I think a couple of other first team players might be flogged off too, fitness has been a problem, will we keep Tetteh & Oscar if we could sign some players that Rosie wants as opposed to what he’s inherited.
Finally, bin off Sinik & at least a couple of our keepers, whether it’s Ingram, TLT, Cartwright or Robson, I expect at least 2 to be gone.

I'm not sure whether this has been put up before, but a really good compilation of Billy Chadwick's goals. He certainly has given Liam something to think about, at the very least is he worth keeping on as he may attract someone to pay a bit of money for him?

Need to get rid of certain players off the wage books imo. Woods would be the first to go if it was up to me. Pointless signing. Too similar to Seri but nowhere near as good and I imagine he’s on decent wages. We needed physicality in midfield in the summer and we still do and he isn’t it. Figueiredo should probably go as well. Barely played under Rosenior and isn’t even making the bench. Tyler Smith will probably go as well.

I can see Fleming and Sinik staying and fighting for a place. Doc will probably leave on a free and Elder might as well. Alfie Jones and Coyle will probably be offered new deals.

If we sign Connolly and Darlow permanently, we need a right-footed centre-half, a defensive midfielder, another winger (maybe two), a left-back and maybe another right-back (though preferably a young one for the future) and I think we’re set. I wouldn’t sign Pelkas permanently. Nowt against him but he’ll be on big wages and hasn’t contributed enough to warrant signing him imo.

Keeping Óscar, Seri, Tufan and Greaves should be priorities imo. I know people on here would pack their bags for them if the right bid comes in but they are the spine of our team. Hard to replace Óscar’s goals, Tufan has proven himself for me despite my initial doubts, Seri makes everything tick and Greaves can only keep improving imo, though he needs to be playing in his natural position at centre-half.

No mention of Simons. Forget or just don't fancy him? I think he'll figure next season and come good. Might even see him today.

I don’t think anyone on here would pack Seri’s bag, tufan has the ability that would cost us a fortune to replace.
Greaves if a decent offer comes in and the same with Oscar

He signed permanently in March so I didn’t figure him in my post. I think he’ll definitely be in and around the team going forward. If Doc and Woods goes, our central midfield options hopefully would be Seri, Slater, Simons, Callum Jones, new defensive midfielder and Tufan can play anywhere in midfield too.

I don’t know why Callum Jones is still here, he’s nowhere near the first team and hasn’t even done a proper loan.

Don’t forget Traore, given the quality he has I’d say he should be one of the first names on our team sheet.

True. I don’t know why he’s been given a new three-year deal either but he’s here and he’s an option. Traoré’s more of advanced midfielder. I’m thinking about midfielders who can play in the deep roles in a 4-2-3-1 that Rosy currently plays.

Ah fair one. Well Seri and Slater/Simons is a decent set up, with Traore in front of them is going to do alright. I’d rather have a bit more quality and experience next to Seri in that ball winning role.

That can only be a guess, none of us really have any idea how good Darlow is compared to Ingram do we.

You seem to have a really big thing for judging players based on division. For every player it seems to come down to "Played for us in League 1 at one point = objectively ****. Played in the PL = objectively better than what we've got." You must understand it's not that simple though surely?
I feel my point may have been vindicated.. :)

You know we're trying to get a multiclub system up and running yeah?
Might be something to do with that.

... Or Clarke and Diallo were prem quality on the night.

We don't give the oppo enough respect at times.

Yeah but is that worth us hanging onto a 22 year old for? I mean the lad went to Morecambe and dropped out the side, then to Grimsby and picked up a very bad injury, he's had 2x two and a half year deals out of us and has made 10 appearances in three years for City. I'm confused as to why he's been kept on when we have the likes of Rocco Coyle and Harry Wallis coming through.
