As I have read on here, l believe there are a few posters who are scouts or familiar with the recruitment process for football clubs. In particular thinking about those elusive white unicorns, strikers.

So, take Chelsea, they have spent a Kings ransom on players but do not have a goal scorer of note. Similar to Everton....

On here or in another place someone mentioned a talented winger might be available, so we should go for him, irrespective of the fact we already have wingers.

Is that really how recruitment goes, obviously those available are easier to bring in. However if you are missing a few key players, in military terms the tip of the spear, presumably its necessary to prise out some other teams priceless asset. I suppose Harry Kane comes to mind would Chelsea be in a better place if they had spent say £120m of their recently spent £350m on Kane, rather than on other talented players that were available.

Sunderland, are obviously not Chelsea, we do not have their riches and our 'model' is to buy young and cheap, then sell dear. Or to bring in loanees.
We iirc have not bought a striker since Stewart and have had problems with getting good loanees, but losing them or in Stewart's case injuries.

Perhaps part of the problem is that managers are now really head coaches and are not solely in charge of recruitment. Handing over brown paper parcels in motorway cafés is a thing of the past.

So if the recruitment main aim is to bring in young players to resell... then the manager/head coach can jump and down, yelling, strikers or big physical players for the team... as much as he likes but that is a secondary priority. This may be our problem... but Chelsea failings are a mystery.

There aren't any specifics,I agree, but we would never expect any. The substance is though that they're on it, surely?

I was taking his comments about Harvey being in the 'far flung corners' as more or less confirmation about the Ukrainian lad.

We are never going to get specific names but good to know the meetings are happening and they are on the same page.

Yes,and we know Harvey has been in South America. My impression is that they have a clear idea of what they're looking for and Harvey's net is being cast far and wide in the hunt.TM has done so well with the young players this year, and his interview backs up the notion, and evidence, that he is very good at developing the young players and bringing them through. More importantly perhaps,it seems as though he understands his role,is rellishing it and really enjoying it.

Not technically related to the summer window but anyone heard updates on the Stewart contract situation? Could have a big impact on what type and the number of strikers we need to sign.

i don't think the way Chelsea have done things is something we should be concerned with. They snaffled up every decent kid with potential into their academy, sent them out on loan and watched to see which of them they wanted to take back. That's not a coherent strategy,as they've now found out.

Only thing I have seen is a tweet from someone who was at the open training session and, needless to say, Rossco gave the lad the word that he was going nowhere. <laugh><laugh>

Fu*k the model: I want big, fast, hard-working, aggressive, disciplined players who aren't pussies and speak English.

Diego Costa was a handful! :emoticon-0102-bigsm But then Giroud,Higuain etc,. Lukaku,Havertz,Werner....loads of money for nothing. Very poorly run club. They let Abraham go,ffs.

Best part of them seem to fall in to a big black hole , not many seem to return to them .

You could throw Shevchenko, Crespo and Torres into that too.

Not sure what it is about Chelsea but since the start of the Ambramovich era, even great strikers don't tend to do well there.

It was a puzzle, Torres could not stop scoring for the bindippers, he went to Chelsea and couldn't hit a bar door... similar to Lukaku.

I'd like to see at least two strikers coming and we 100% need a right back. Losing amad will be a blow that's the joy / pain of a loan player. Very excited to see who comes in in the summer though.
